Man, what is up with Issues fic, anyway? I don't know why, but people are all over that in Sherlock fandom (including myself; idk it was like I had to get it out of my system or something) and most of them are amazing, but only because things like asexuality and/or autism spectrum actually apply to Sherlock. These things do not apply to Tony Stark. In fact, the very idea makes me laugh hysterically. Is it because RDJ played both or something?
I prefer fics where all the issues are icebergs because I don't need pages of omniscient exposition on how character X is full of feelings. Also, it feels more real to me when characters deal with issues mostly through repression, though I suspect I'm projecting.
Authors must be thinking, "if you're on the spectrum, you have trouble with people, so if you have trouble with people, you might be on the spectrum" except all the assumptions in that line of thought are wrong. It's definitely wrong for Tony, who clearly seems to have decided at some point, 'I'm a genius billionaire playboy philanthropist; my value is not based solely on being nice so I'm not going to bother'. I actually love this particular kind of character (see House, Sherlock, etc), which also might be why I have somehow moved onto SGA fic after burning through all the Steve/Tony fic. Rodney's mostly like Tony but with less hair and money and more allergies.
I wish I had fic recs. I like Pinboard, but I miss the variety on Delicious.
