Every Day's The Perfect Day For a Wedding

The other night I saw a couple of mortgage brokers get married to the tune of $60,000, for what I hope was their dream wedding. Gaudy and ostentatious might be an appropriate substitute for dream, but hey, it wasn’t my wedding ( Read more... )

My wedding was as barebones as I could make it and still be pretty. These are fuzzy guesstimates ( ... )

from the photos I've seen, it looks it was quite a lovely occasion--I especially loved your dress! :) Thanks so much for all the details. Wedding details fascinate me for some reason. If I do turn this into an article of some kind, would you by any chance be interested in expanding upon your wedding experience with me?

Perhaps. But it was seriously so simple that I couldn't add too much.

my 'dream' wedding... more my husband's than mine, but it was beautiful, cost us about $7,000.00 ... much of it was the hall and food for 200 guests and the DJ which was mandatory with the hall. We paid about half that while the other half was gifted in the form of fabric for our ensembles and flowers and rented centerpieces from family. We 'gifted' the minister with $50, paid $100 for a pianist, $50 for church rental and did a pot-luck rehersal dinner. In that, though, was also the fabric for our brides-maids' outfits because we didn't feel they should have to pay for them.

If I could do it again? I would go back to my original dream of outside in the garden, renting a big pavillion tent and using a streo instead of a DJ. Hubby hated that idea, so we went with something more elaborate... and I had to wear shoes. Ah well ;)

But I’m wondering if I’m being terribly naïve thinking I could even pull off this quaint, intimate wedding I envision without completely breaking the bank.

Well, it depends how much you have and also want to work with. I find large weddings to be a bit ridiculous -- a ceremony is only ONE DAY, after all. I'd rather save money for future trips, vacations, treats, etc ( ... )

i spent all my money on my guests (paying for the hotel room for my out-of-town guests and for the food after the wedding) and on a beautiful dress. i worked part-time, one day a week at the store where i bought the dress over some months to help reduce the cost. then we got married barefoot in a yoga studio. we had thirty guests and ate the best real-italy italian food afterwards. the night before the wedding, we had a casual barbeque at my house. our rings are 10K gold from jc penny's and we love them. total i spent $4500, and feel like i had my dream wedding.
