Jul 28, 2008 09:50

Before I get to the Really Juicy Stuff, here are the remaining pictures of Athens State Hospital. I know - I keep saying this is it for Athens, and then I come back with more! I'm evil that way. But no really, this is it this time. Its out of order, because the pictures you've already seen were taken on Friday, but then we went back on our way back ( Read more... )

Notice the little cupolae on the bay window dayrooms on each ward that are no longer there. (in the historic photos)

Also, if you look close at the photos with overhead lighting fixtures, they loook like old gasoliers in the ballroom and on the men's ward. While the ballroom's fiery destruction could be caused by just about anyhthing, I'd bet on the gasolier or other gaslight fixtures having something to do with it. While a sad loss, it's amazing that they stopped the fire in there!

The cupolae are very cute! If those were still there it would have looked even taller! I wonder if they were wood and that's why they're gone.

I didn't even read about the ballroom, though I was kind of wondering where it was... I guess it wasn't!

i think that blue room with the white trim just convinced me to actually paint kurt's room the blue color he wants which i thought was a little too dark. it's absolutely gorgeous.

Its a good look! I have a blue room too (the dining room), but mine turned out a little bit darker than what I had envisioned. I wanted something a little more like the room in the picture, but it still looks good!
