Before I get to the Really Juicy Stuff, here are the remaining pictures of Athens State Hospital. I know - I keep saying this is it for Athens, and then I come back with more! I'm evil that way. But no really, this is it this time. Its out of order, because the pictures you've already seen were taken on Friday, but then we went back on our way back on Sunday, and that's what these pictures are. There are a lot of them (warning - 23!), and they are interesting because there are a few more exteriors, interiors of the first floor of Central Admin (which is now used as an art museum), and then pictures of historical collages that were hanging in one of the rooms.
The architectural details around the doors are still there!
Here's a map of Ohio University. "The Ridges" (the old hospital) are the buildings in the lower left, south of the river. I threw it in for a little perspective.
Pretty floor!
The first room on the left was full of information about the history of the hospital. Here's the Kirkbride plan for Athens Lunatic Asylum.
This looks like an old postcard.
"Lin Hall" is what they're calling Central Administration now. One of the pictures has the fountain right out front, the one that is now in the back and very sad and lonely-looking.
The Ballroom.
The Grounds.
A closeup on the words so you can read them.
So there you have it. That was the last of them, I promise! No, really this time! :)
