mycosys wanted to know what the largest/best armed spaceship/weapon would be with teleporting ability. We looked up Spaceship Dimensions but it wasn't really clear. I thought maybe either a Borg Cube or an Ori Mothership, but there may be others I'm unaware of.

Got any suggestions?

I just heard that Jim Baen (SF editor) died on the 28th. Seems there's an eulogy by David Drake, and the Baen Free Library, of free online books(!)

Never met the man of course, but it's quite likely I've read some of the books he edited or published.

I had a brief look at the online library, but didn't recognise too many titles.

I just found out that in addition to the website, there's also an Elfwood live journal community at elfwood - cool!

It was too hot to do much, earlier today.

I happened to notice an old copy of Amazing Science Fiction (Jan 1985) sitting on the shelf and read a couple of stories in it. One was ""MS found in a Cruet Set" by Sharon N. Farber, and the other was "After the Guillotine" by Tanith Lee. I loved the first story, a wonderful pastiche about what Sherlock ( Read more... )
