Awww, cute! lol And I think you've got the "voices" down right for a diminutive "McKay & Mrs. Miller" moment...echoes of the adult selves to come, wrapped up in a simple childhood pleasure.
*chuckles* And I type this, with a kitten sprawled across me. lol ;)
As the slave of two lovely tabbies I loved this tale...and so did they! They like it when I am happy, and you did that with this very well done cat tale.
They felt very true to their characters even at such a young age. I never thought of this before, but maybe the reason he likes cats ( though the family did have a dog that ran away ) is because they have exactly the same traits that he tries to develop in himself ( in your story because the parents don't seem to care and he feels like he can't depend on them emotionally )?
Loved the name he'd given the cat too. The interest in science, as well as the contempt for non-math/physics sciences is already there: he knows about Pavlov and thinks that most of what he did wasn't "real science".
The interaction with the cat was wonderfully described. I have to admit though that I felt exactly what Rodney did when Jeannie got him to come into her lap. I feel from watching the series that Jeannie has... everything. I mean, she's just as intelligent as Rodney, and she's good with people too. This cat was "his", he'd been feeding him and gaining his trust, and then his little sister, who everybody loves
( ... )
Oh, you don't have to thank me with a fic for reviewing your fic! My reviews are a thank-you for your writing the fic! ;)
But I'm glad you liked my review and that I'd picked up on the things you wanted to convey! It's interesting to discuss Rodney with other fans/writers because it helps me put words to how I see him and see if others feel the same. Rodney is the only character I feel I "get" well enough to write him, but I hope to figure the others out soon too. Especially John, because I love his relationship with Rodney. They're so adorable together!
