State of the Barge

Nov 21, 2011 11:44

Dearest barglings, this is just a small note to address all of you about the expectations that we have as far as behavior. Now, we realize that most of you, no, all of you, are good, decent, reasonable people. Good decent reasonable adults. But that is the detail that seems to be getting lost here. For the past few months, we have noticed an ( Read more... )

I remain (happily?) oblivious to any nastiness which has been generated, but I suppose not being aware of those communities helps in that regard.

However! As a related note! I'd just like to take this opportunity to reinforce that I would not take offence if anyone approaches me with concerns or queries, as regards my characters! So long as it's done civilly and not argumentatively - obviously. :)

AND THIS INCLUDES PAIRINGS! Please, if one of you feels a pairing with my characters isn't working out, just let me know! I won't take it badly! I'm happy to try and think up alternative solutions or simply unpair them! And I'm not directing that at anyone presently, by any means - just that I've had a couple of times where the other person's been a little fearful that I might take it the wrong way. I won't! These are fictional characters and it's a lot easier to try and arrange/engineer stuff for them than it is for us in real life! :D ( ... )

I'm going to print that out and stick it up on the wall over my desk, if you don't mind. :)

This does include running to rpanoncomm/rp!s/any other anon comm. I’m certain that most of you know that anon does not play at this game. And, from this point on, no one who works as a mod will respond to any post made on these forums regarding the game.

Thank you.

I have always, not gonna lie, found it sincerely baffling to know that mods (and players, for that matter, but mostly mods) responded to criticism on anoncomm as if it were a legitimate forum, when it is not - it is quite outside your jurisdiction and basically pointless. I feel this way especially when it has been stated before, from what I read, that anon doesn't play here. I can only urge you to stick to that pledge, this time.

I don't have much to say for the rest of it. Needs reflection. But I will state that I consider mods staying away from anoncomm, as small an adjustment as it might ultimately be, as a behavioural change on their part as well as that of the playerbase, as it should be.

I don't know if it's appropriate to add two cents where we've already said one thing as a whole, but we don't exactly get too many opportunities to air our grievances just as people or players in the game without it reflecting badly on how we do our [volunteer] jobs. It is as it is, a mod is a mod, but in the last four or five months especially I've been getting increasingly anxious because I feel like this is being taken for granted. I feel that it's CONSTANTLY being forgotten that while the players come to us with problems to solve and we do this in the best way possible -- even if the backlash is not directed toward us but rather at other players involved (or both), we still stress about it just as much, if not more, than you guys do.

I am (and I assume other mods are) friends with a lot of people here. Some of us are friends with people who have left the board, both on good and bad terms. That has nothing to do with how we mod the game. However, it does make certain decisions and motions that we do, as mods, extremely stressful ( ... )

The anoncomm is nothing but an internet-acceptable form of cyber-bullying, to quote what someone else has said about it in recent memory. It will not solve problems, and to prove that -- all the complaining that happened there over the last plot? Every problem brought forward could have been asked about in the plot post (and was), with answers there for every person that would just read the post or talk to someone to find it. Too confusing? Here it is in plain English. Not inclusive enough? Here's how it's totally inclusive enough. And running straight to the anoncomm to complain about it before even bothering to ask for clarifications on the plotting post just looks stupid. There is no nice way to put it. Last month's plot ran a little overlong, but the endgame wound up being a lot more inclusive than the initial proposed plan because you guys came forward with ideas, concerns, and suggestions, and what resulted wasn't perfect? But it was a lot better, and I was HAPPY to use those suggestions ( ... )

Just wanted to +1 here that... I've heard some shit thrown around lately about moderator bias and favoritism? Except that I can not think of a single instance when I've actually seen decisions made or arguments settled by the mods automatically backing up their bro's.

The only thing that I would say would be to encourage you, Rei, and the other mods, not to take it to heart. People who don't get their way might try to make it someone else's fault or come up with an excuse for being called on their behavior, but although it may not always be apparent, the majority of players do see your actions, and we can recognize how patient and how balanced you approach these issues with ( ... )

I'm ok with venting and even doing it anon, as a vent might help a player focus their thoughts and not spew illogical rage at whoever about whatever sleight that might have been knowingly or unknowingly perpetrated, and in some cases even get feedback that actually, no, ranter, it is you who is wrong ( ... )
