John knew that eventually somebody was going to come and fetch Hayley once she was awake, and he really didn't care enough to stop them. It happened often enough that he was prepared, and left the would-be patient smugglers a little note pinned to the IV stand.

Hayley awoke suddenly, tense and uncomfortable. Of course her neck was tense, but she hadn't expected the dull throbbing at the back of her head or the ache in her.. well, in her heart, it seemed. But as quickly as that awareness had come, it washed away beneath the morphine and she was in an alright place because she was too distracted to notice much of anything. The inmate moved her hands around to grasp at clean sheets -- contrary to what John's post might have implied -- and tilted her body awkwardly to see if anyone was there waiting.
No one was.
It took her a minute or so to actually fully awaken, at which point she rolled sloppily onto her side to try to find a glass of water or something else that could help the dryness of her mouth.
You could only walk past a threshold so many times, or lurk outside a door before becoming noticeable, so the second Cooper had noticed Hayley - and what looked like a note on her IV - he headed into the infirmary, and was there to catch her shoulder as she turned on the bed. Grabbing the note, he scanned it quickly, then crumpled it up and shoved it in his pocket.
"Come on," he said quietly, leaning down to talk to her. "You're not staying here."
Hayley instinctively tried to pull away from the hand that grabbed her, though it was a poor and failed effort, until her mind caught up to her sight and she realized who it was. Her eyes widened and it took her another stretch to be able to think. When she spoke, her voice was not a yell, but it was not a whisper either. "Cooper? What are you.. Are you.. Do you remember the real Barge or the fake one?"
"The one where doctors look after their fucking patients, now get up, Hayley. I'll carry you if I have to." But he was not letting her stay here while she was vulnerable. He pulled her up by the arm, reaching for the IV stand to give her something else to lean on.
