"That's what I meant." He didn't even want to think about that joke, but...there was no going around it. He stared again at the other man, not sure what to think or feel about that.

Dear God, this flood was so bad that even that was almost a little amusing.

He chuckled again, though it was a relief to know that not all of his orthodoxy had fallen by the wayside. He trailed his fingers in the water idly, though he really had no interest in it.

Beatty just watched him, hoping that he wouldn't fall it. That...would be awkward to try and explain to O'Brien's warden. Not that Beatty really wanted to try.

"Not that I count myself among them, remember." He laughed.

He didn't even notice it. Outwardly, Beatty seemed fine. Even happier than normal. But he wasn't the same inwardly. Being around that much temptation was daunting and he had even given in a few times. That hadn't been a part of the plan. At any time.

"Of course I do. Well..." He glanced to the door, though the implication that followed was mostly in jest. "I did."
