He would reach Stephanie before ever reaching Sveta. She was already thoroughly bruised from falling over, off of, and into things, but that wasn't about to stop her. She didn't even bother trying to hide the utility belt only slightly covered by the over-sized shirt she used to cover up her batsuit.

The moment she heard him coming her hand was on her staff, and in a second it was extended to full length and she spun to face...

There wasn't anyone there.

But no, Steph had seen horror movies before. With a sense of familiar dread she looked toward the ceiling.

One little girl protecting the hallway? The wardens must have seriously overestimated how many people were content to sit around and accept their deaths passively. Eddie was almost tempted to laugh at this whole setup. The kid was just an appetizer.

He launched himself at her, planning to take the girl out with a quick tackle-- but sort of overshot it and went sailing past Stephanie and colliding into the ground.

Okay, what the hell? His reflexes must've been off.

She ducked under the lunge and spun around to face her enemy, staff held out in front of her in a defensive stance.

"What are you supposed to be, the boogy man?" Stephanie never could resist a taunt.

Recovering from his dive bomb into the ground, Eddie stood up to his full height, cracking his neck before flashing her a grin full of sharp teeth. "Why, do I scare ya?"

With a snarl-- more the alien than Eddie-- he lunged again, confident that he could take the hit from her stick and wrench it away from her. She was just a little kid, after all, and here he was, all claws and muscle, with an overwhelming drive to kill.

He often had a problem of totally underestimating the people of the Barge.
