Costigan watched the tantrum on the network and took that as his cue that it was time to go pick up David. He had intended to give the kid a little time to himself, but apparently it wasn't what the other inmate wanted or needed. With a whispered, offhand profanity, he returned his communicator to his pocket and arrived at David's door not long after.

It occurred to him that David might not know to expect him. Hell, he might not even know that he was supposed to come stay with Costigan for a few days or the trade off that had gone down to get him less time as a rat. Of course, his ability still didn't sit well with the Bostonian, but it wasn't enough to turn him off from the kid completely.

So Costigan knocked on the door and waited, pushing his hands into the pockets of his brown jacket but very conscious of the fight that might be had.

Between flipping out on Bourne, the bizarreness of the port, and flipping out again on the network, David was pretty much all out of fight when the knock came at his door. He pretty much knew right then it wasn't Bourne - Bourne would have just walked in and to hell with knocking. So he wasn't completely surprised when he opened the door and found Costigan standing there.

"You can come in if you want," he offered after an awkward pause, noticing the cautious way the older man stood. At least he didn't just barge in, that was worth something, David figured. "It's a little messy in here right now though."

This was, of course, a bit like saying the Hindenburg didn't have the most successful flight.

Well, that answered that question. Costigan gave a nod as he stepped inside. His pockets fell out of his jacket only to close the door behind him and steady himself over the mess on the ground. He relaxed a little that David hadn't tried to hit him yet, but he was still aware of where the younger inmate was and what he was doing. It wouldn't pay to get the shit beat out of him for no reason.

"Pack what you need. You're staying with me for a few days." It wasn't an order, but it obviously wasn't a question either. Costigan was trying to remain a cool air of authority without pushing at David's buttons, trying to be the adult without rubbing it in the kid's face. After all, he considered them friends to some extent and that meant something to him.

"Ah," David remarked flatly, moving to the wrecked dresser to pull a few sets of clothes out. "Guess I'm still under parole, huh?"

The rage Costigan saw in him before with Bourne and again on the network was a banked fire now. Mostly David sounded and looked what he was - tired. Yeah, he didn't like being told what to do, but after spending four days as a rat and three more as a slave, he really wasn't going to complain about living arrangements.
