Who: Shendu and Merlin What: Shendu is a dick. IN THE LIBRARY. Where: Library When: Right now! Warnings: LAZINESS. Catherine is still having a tough week, so LAZIEST LOG.
Merlin, on the other hand, had had an early breakfast and was now heading to the library for the entirely innocent purpose of...reading, specifically into magics from worlds not his own. He didn't know that he'd be able to pick anything up he could actually use, but there was a voice in his head (Gaius' voice) telling him that he would never have an opportunity to access this sheer breadth of knowledge outside the Barge.
Which brought him to a space between two shelves that was currently occupied by Valmont. Who was turned away, hence the lack of any early warnings that something was amiss like - say - glowing red eyes.
So this wasn't awkward. And there was no way of going around, because the other end of the row inconveniently terminated in a wall. He cleared his throat.
Shendu was just drawing an eerily accurate replica of his own arcane codex from the shelves of the library, when Merlins voice chimed into the library from behind him. He stiffened and turned, glaring at the offending young man, "What do you want?"
Merlin took a step back, because the last few years had taught him to be healthily cautious of people with glowing eyes. The phenomenon of Valmont being a double act wasn't exactly new to him, but he'd never spoken to his...other half. Not that he'd ever spoken to his first half before - well - the time he'd spoken to him.
"I just want to get a book from..." He gestured vaguely towards some point of the shelves beyond Shendu's shoulder. "...Please."
Shendu regarded Merlin for a moment, attempting to project the image of one who really didn't need to let anyone pass him for any reason, but eventually he stepped aside, allowing Merlin access to the shelves.
"Pass then." He was quiet, waiting for Merlin to pass before speaking again, "You are a practitioner, I presume?"

"Er. Excuse me."
