Hayley stood nervously around on deck while waiting for Capa to arrive, beginning to wonder if it was a trick that Crane or someone else had played. Her mind began to review scenarios in which some other person could have obtained Capa's journal, but she was pulled from this reveries by seeing Capa hurrying over and she offered him an off-kilter smile. "I still don't know why you suddenly wanted to go drinking. Should I be worrying about you trying to get information from me?"
The inmate was joking, but some part of her considered it a valid option with people that she trusted less. Why else would he suddenly encourage what she had to fight for the previous time?
"No," he said easily and opened the doors to let her in. He wasn't offended or even upset by that statement. He knew that it did look strange, but it all all because he wanted to not care today. He wanted to have a good day and he wanted Hayley to.
But he didn't want her to think all of that in the back of his mind. He didn't want her to be suspicious, so, even though he told himself that he wasn't going to reveal this to her, he went ahead and made that decision anyway.
"Look, don't....make a big deal of it or anything. Today, I think, is my birthday. I just wanted to have a good day and...I wanted to have a few drinks with my friend."
Hayley's immediate reaction was to flip out, but she controlled herself as quickly as it came, expression expanding into a wide grin and then retracting again. She moved past him into the warden area and the bar, turning around to face him. Clearly this couldn't go completely untouched.
"You 'think?' How can you not know?" She asked honestly, keeping the glee from her voice. The wide smile crept onto her face again. "Okay. I mean, whatever you want! It's your birthday! I mean, I'm not making a big deal out of it. It's just a few drinks."
She diligently turned around and set her brow into a determined solemnity, trying not to appear as overjoyed as she was. Her birthday had never really been a big thing at home, but birthdays had always been important to her and, really, any excuse to celebrate with Capa and do something that made him happy was alright with her.
"Well, we're all assuming that we're operating under an Earth calendar here because of holidays and such, but we never know. My calendar says it's February second, so...that's what I'm assuming." He laughed and put a hand on her shoulder for a moment before heading to the bar.
"Whatever you want," he told her and then ordered a rum and Coke for himself. It's what he usually had and it was good to start with, since he didn't really like beer.
"I just don't see why it's a big deal. It's not like anyone really cares here, Hayley." He smiled. "Compared to everything else, birthdays are not high on the priority list. But...to friends, I suppose it matters."
