Clapet, meanwhile, was eating meat off the bone from the rib roast, and not even really bothering with knife and fork at this point. He'd save that for the sausage. Bearing in mind Angelica's threat, he was going to be as... decent and sensible as he could.

He hadn't had a wife in a very, very long time. Since just after the war, in fact, and he was determined for nothing bad to happen to Mal. Even if she was just a wife in name only, he was determined not to make a mess of this. Or to let her die. Which seemed unlikely in this universe, but who knew. He paused from chewing his bit of meat and nodded, "If you would, please." He pushed his glass towards her, around the rack of beef in the middle of the table.

"How's the pork?" Polite. Clapet could do polite. He didn't want his shop blowing up. Again.

She poured an ounce or two of wine into his glass and, after a second's hesitation, topped up her own. She prodded at the cut-up pieces of pork loin on her plate; under normal circumstances, she would have called it delicious by any standard, but the grotesque sight of all the meat on the table had, paradoxically, killed her appetite stone dead.

Still, one had to make the best of it. She ate a piece of the pork and nodded. "It's very good." Pause. "Are you sure you wouldn't like a salad?"

Clapet has a healthy gulp of his wine and glances across at her, helping himself to some more meat. This is his idea of a good meal, so couldn't quite understand why she wasn't eating so much of it.

"Why would I want salad? When it comes down to it, meat is the best sort of meal there is? I'm just fine."

He might make a concession or two later and see if he could buy something vegetable shaped, but right now, his idea of food was a ton of meat.

The whole "cannibal" thing had also kind of done a number on her appetite as well, it had to be said.

She tried not to think about what the state of his digestive system must be on a diet like this. "Salads are ... healthier. You need something to balance ..." She trailed off. Was this argument going to go anywhere? Unlikely.
