His hands were shaking a little, as Prefect stood in the corridor, waiting for someone to come past him. It didn't matter who, he couldn't do this anymore. He'd resisted for O'Brien, he'd managed to disobey then, but only on the promise that he would find others.

And whether he liked it or not, Prefect was not a man inclined to breaking his promises. Taking a deep breath, Prefect slid his hands into his pockets, and waited.

Prefect snapped around quickly to face the stranger, his expression instantly exploding into a wide, slightly frantic grin. He held up both hands, spreading his fingers wide and began approaching the other man, "Comrade! A moment of your time, please!"

His jacket rode open slightly, revealing the very tip of the wound biting into his chest, as he walked quickly towards the man.

Well, his first attempt at murder hadn't gone well, but that was hardly his fault, he'd picked on a Time Lord! There was no way he could have foreseen it being as complicated or as difficult as that had panned out being.

This time it'd be different. Prefect hugged the pillow against his chest as he waited for his next target to present itself. He'd be more careful this time, make absolutely sure that whoever he was going after was actually human, then he'd do the deed.

Then he'd take them down.

Prefect turned towards Aaron sharply, staring at him for a minute. He certainly... looked convincingly human. But who didn't look human on the Barge, even Arthas had looked human...

It didn't matter, regardless of his earlier failure, the voice inside his mind was screaming at him to take this one, don't be a coward, don't wait, don't hesitate, don't fail it again.

Prefect smiled, his expression snapping into the wide, massively practiced, utterly fake expression in a split second as he rounded on the stranger.

"Hello. I was just waiting for someone, actually."

He let the pillow drop down from his chest slightly, tightening his grip on it, and at the same time revealing the dark, open wound that drove through his chest and into his heart.

Oh yeah, he was subtle.

Why was this so difficult? How did people do this over and over again, without being constantly thwarted and killed? Clearly some people were meant for the heavy lifting sides of things, and some people (such as Prefect) were simply more suited to managerial roles.

Still, as the throbbing pain in his head reminded him callously, he didn't have that option open to him. He'd made a promise, and more than that, his body had been dragged back from death to fulfill this function, he would kill!

Clutching a piece of wooden chipboard, Prefect waited for someone else to pass him by, so he could launch his next attack.

Oh! It was Adam! Prefect... didn't particularly care for Adam (he recalled a beating that had happened long long ago and which he'd never quite forgiven), but he appreciated the other man as one of the long term inhabitants of the barge, and this afforded a certain satisfying familiarity with him. As such, when he appeared, Prefect offered him a bright smile,

"Oh! Hello, Comrade!"

Wait! Focus! HIT HIM WITH THE BOARD!

Prefect swung the board as hard as he could at Adam's face.

"I can't do this, Comrade, I can not do this! I'm not good at it!"

Why wouldn't it listen? Why was it never listening? He hadn't managed to commit a single murder today! And that certainly wasn't for lack of trying. Prefect paced down the corridor, arguing with himself in a voice of increasing agitation, "Fine! Fine! Shut up, I said it's fine! I'm not stopping!"

She heard Prefect's voice before she saw him (his back to her), and the agitation was plain. Worried, she approached. "Prefect? Everything all right?"

Prefect snapped his head around, and he let out a low groan of despair. Why couldn't he run into someone he hated? It didn't matter now, he had to do this, had to make it stop. He lurched towards her, one hand balling into a fist and without thinking about it, aiming a blow at her face.

Una was definitely not expecting that.

She recoiled, trying to block the blow, but only partially succeeding; his fist connected with her chin hard enough to get her angry. "Prefect! What the HELL-" She stepped back, hands going into a defensive posture ... and then she saw the wound in his chest.

Oh sod.

"Prefect ... come on now. Don't-let me get you somewhere safe, all right?"

This time it would work. This time he was prepared. Prefect twisted the wire coat hanger in his hand, the sharpened point of it reassuringly dangerous in comparison to his other weapons.

This time, he'd do it. He would commit murder. It would be glorious.
