Which of course, inevitably reminded Victor of his face. He decided that he didn't want to know. Not just yet. He'd wait a few minutes or maybe even hours. It was better to be in this kind of half reality with Data reading, rather than to acknowledge what had happened.
He had wondered what Data was looking at as the book had been settled in his lap. Victor didn't want to look. He didn't want to turn his head and feel the press of bandages and the inevitable pain. It was better to stay as he was, and let Data tell him what was going on.

The brief hand touch melted most of those thoughts. Victor glanced down at it and was about to squeeze back, when Data moved his hand up to the bar. Victor looked at it for a moment, wondering, before looking back up to Data's face.
"Thank you." Victor managed to say. His voice sounded oddly forced, as if he hadn't used it in a long while. Yet if Data had time to read with him, a great deal of time must have passed. Had they found Amanda? Was she safe? Had the man in the red coat been caught and the machine taken apart?
"Amanda... safe?" Victor managed to ask, looking up at Data with an expression of pain and concern. "Caught the man?"

"Sergeant Howie." Victor sounds hoarse, but pleased. "It is good to see you."
A bit of coughing at the end there, but Victor does look very happy to see Howie despite it.

And so it is that in a fit of completely irrational guilt, he shows up with an oops-proof thermos of just-warm-enough tea, and a straw. He can't remember if he's ever actually met Victor before, though he supposes in a place like this, it really doesn't matter. He quietly pulls a chair to the bedside and settles down, not really intending to tire the poor man out with conversation if he isn't looking for it, but there to keep company nonetheless, based on what he remembers of his own wishes in this condition. The thermos and straw are fiddled with and prepared, and he offers an awkward smile in case Victor might be awake and aware enough to receive it.]

Hello. [He gives the Doctor a suitably awkward smile back. And also spends a second looking at the thermos and the straw trying to work out what it is. He eventually decides that its some kind of food container, but he's still boggling a bit at the straw.] We've spoken before. [He remembered that.]

It's a container of tea. I've made certain it isn't too hot, but I wasn't sure how you take it, so I've left it plain. I found it easy to settle my stomach with when I was kept here, and with your injuries, I've added a s- a tube to help you sip from it without having to use your hands. D'you take anything in your tea? Or would you like something else?

Victor. [Her voice was soft as she gently put a hand on his. She didn't want to startle him.]

[It was good to feel her hand on his. Someone normal, not someone that he associated with what had happened yesterday. It had been good to just know that she was in the infirmary and to hear her working in the rooms nearby and occasionally talking to another infirmary member.] You are... [He trailed off before finishing the sentence. He'd wanted to ask if she was staying any longer.]

I am what? [Then, she paused.] Wait...don't say it. You just need to rest. I'm sorry if I woke you.

[And the tray falls to the floor. Severen doesn't pick it up, he just looks at Victor like he's an utter retard.]
Why the fuck did you do that?
