Who: Beatrix Kiddo, Stephanie Brown, any warden who feels like jumping in
Where: The upper levels.
What: Bea has stolen Randal's warden item, which was ridiculously easy. It's a cell phone, and she's got it her right boot and won't tell anyone about it unless she sees no other choice. She's using it to gain access to the upper levels, since she had ( Read more... )

Stephanie is on her way back to the library from a rather disappointing stop in the CES when she sees a familiar head of blonde hair down the hall. Even if she hadn't stored the woman's name and appearance in the back of her head just in case, her current position is more than suspicious enough. She's trying to break into... the research lab?

As ridiculous as that is, somehow Beatrix is up here without a warden, without permission, trying to break into a restricted area. Stephanie has never been in the lab, so she doesn't know what's in there, but she's sure it's nothing that Bea needs to be getting her hands on ( ... )

She doesn't roll her eyes so she doesn't have to look away, but she wants to. She doesn't move either. That's not how it's done.

"I'd rather not fight you, Bea. Don't make me."

Bea narrows her eyes and gives a little annoyed head tilt. "You're tiresome, you know that?"

And now she will attack. She's going for a sudden, quick, straightforward attack, attempting to get a grip on Steph's staff and push her back against the corridor wall.

She twists out of the way and away from the wall, swinging her staff around to bring it down on Bea's back. "Yeah, I get that a lot."

Ducking before the staff can make contact with her back, bending her knees and crouching, her hands flat against the wall. While she's doing so, she's already turning around, extending one leg to use the momentum to knock Steph's feet out from under her.

And sorry, Steph. Bea doesn't talk during fights. So you're not getting an answer.

She isn't expecting an answer. She's mostly relieved that Bea didn't make a run for it, because she always feels silly chasing after people on foot. She sees that leg coming and leaps over it, taking advantage of the height to aim a heel kick at Bea's head. She doesn't need the woman conscious to teach her to respect authority. There are rules, and she needs to follow them or face the consequences. Besides, she attacked first.

Okay, you're not bad, kid. But she isn't quite so easy, either. She was expecting Steph to do something like that, so by the time Steph gets her foot up to land her kick, Bea's used her own momentum to push herself back up to her feet. Steph's kick grazes the side of her knee, but she manages to compensate by a quick shift of her stance.

Bea won't give Steph the time to regroup. She aims a sharp punch at her face, hoping to use this opening in Steph's cover to land a hit that will disorient Steph further and let Bea get a hold of the staff.

She doesn't need time to regroup, she was trained better than that. Her staff stayed at the ready through her jump, so it's no problem for her to deflect the punch, twisting out of the way to the left at the same time. She loses her balance just the tiniest bit, but regains it quickly with a shift in stance as she takes advantage of her position to twist the staff for a lengthwise hit at Bea's left hip.

The staff goes up, blocking her punch, and even as Bea brings her other fist around, attempting to land it in Steph's gut or side, she's evaded. She backs away quickly, but doesn't quite manage to evade Steph's hit. The tip of the staff catches Bea's side, and a short, hard stab of pain makes her exhale sharply.

She backs off a couple of steps, the open corridor behind her now. She could run, but she has no intention of doing so. Where would she run to? What she wants is behind that door, not further down the corridor. She cricks her neck in a sharp, jolted gesture, and loosens her stance.

"Who trained you, kid?" She recognized some of the moves Steph used as something she herself had been taught. Others seemed unfamiliar, almost crude. Bea's intrigued.

"None of your business, that's who," she retorted, too preoccupied with the fight to come up with a suitable lie. She falls into her default fighting stance, but doesn't attack. This isn't what she wants to do with her afternoon.

"Leave now, back to your room, and I won't have to kick your ass."

Bea smiles thinly. "Haven't seen you doing any ass-kicking yet."

She knows she might lose this fight. She and Steph are about equally trained, and Steph has a weapon. But then, she might also win this fight. Steph has something to prove, and clearly doesn't want this fight. That's two disadvantages for her right there. Bea waits, wanting to see if Steph will attack this time.

A few short months ago, that might've been enough to rile her up. Now, though, she can hear Babs' voice in her ear, telling her not to rise to the challenge, stay back, give Bea the option of a peaceful resolution. And besides, the voice in her ear adds, if she can't come up with something more clever than implying you're weak, she's nowhere near the top of your list. She stands her ground.

"I could say the same to you. Still determined to force my hand?"

"Well, I'm not going to give up now." Said with the implication that Steph standing there and wasting her time talking when it's pretty damn obvious that this is going to be resolved through a fight is making her motives seem rather ambiguous. Are you afraid to get into this fight? Bea wouldn't blame you if you were, you know.

"Let the record show, you attacked me first." With that, she planted her staff in the floor and used it to launch herself into a flying kick at Bea's chest. She expects her to dodge, and holds on to the staff log enough to swing it around in whatever direction she evades to.

Bea doesn't evade to either side. Instead, she steps backwards and leans back, evading Stephanie's kick like a limbo dancer evading the pole. She'll reach up and try to grab Steph's leg, letting herself fall backwards and dragging Steph with her. If she succeeds, both women are going to go down in a tangled heap, with Bea using the opportunity to leap forward and try to yank the staff out of Steph's hand.

That isn't something she was expecting, and it catches her off guard. To her credit though, it isn't that easy to get the staff away from her. She has both hands locked around it, and with every bit of strength she has she wrenches it away from Bea, letting the far end whack whatever it comes in contact with.
