Charlie was walking by on some personal business or another when it suddenly occurred to him that there was a door he could have sworn he'd never seen before. The outlaw paused, glancing down the corridor for anyone else. Not that he discredited the Barge growing doors at random (as he'd already determined his warden could remove his door at a whim), but it was a bit suspicious to run across one. He half wondered if it was a test of some sort to see how much "progress" was being made on his rehabilitation. Well, Charlie reckoned he could fake that as good as anythin' else, so after a moment's thought, he threw the door open and stepped inside without looking back
( ... )
Morgan jumped slightly when she heard a voice behind her, and though she heard 'girly' it didn't fully register that it was Charlie until she actually saw him. The way this place echoed it was hard sometimes hearing people come in. Little did she know that she felt much the same seeing him as he did her -- there was no telling how he'd reacted to the port yet, though she didn't imagine her dying (and him dying if he was back already) endeared him any further to the people here, beyond making it too awkward to pick fights.
"Yup," she said, turning back to her work. "Looks like you did well enough in port that the Admiral opened up a few rooms for you," she observed. "Of course they could also disappear at the drop of a hat." She gestured around them. "This is the pool. Not much. Just a hole in the ground with some warm water, but it's good for relaxing." The pirate raised an eyebrow. "You know how to swim?"
Did well enough? What the hell did that mean? Charlie took in his surroundings again. What sort of reward was this? He wasn't a strong swimmer at all, so the idea of spending time thrashing about in the water wasn't exactly desirable. He turned his eyes to the pool once again, sneering.
Morgan had to try not to smile. "It probably sounds like a chore to you, yeah?" she asked. "I guess swimming for me is probably what riding horses is for people where you come from. But these things are for relaxing, and the work isn't so hard on the body because half your weight's gone." She nodded him over. "You should give it a try. If anything it feels good, and you can just stay in the shallows."
