The words on the page blurred, swimming out of focus as Cougar’s mind wandered yet again. He’d been having trouble focusing on the words of El Buscón all night, worrying instead about Jensen, and what exactly he meant to the hacker. He glanced over the top of his page to study his lover--his best friend--trying to gleam any sort of insight from his expression. Jensen was focused almost exclusively on the computer screen in front of him, however, making it impossible for Cougar to read anything in those gorgeous blue eyes.
The sniper’s stomach twisted unpleasantly as he forced himself to look back down at the pages in front of him before Jensen caught him staring. The line of thought continued, however. Was this love? Was it casual dating? Dios, was he simply convenient for Jensen to blow off some steam? He didn’t think that the hacker was capable of such a callous thing, but then he had been flirting with Rose the other night...
He tried to convince himself it didn’t matter, but it did. He loved Jensen--God did he love Jensen--and he had to know...
Giving in, Cougar dog-eared the page of his book and set it to the side. The movement caught Jensen’s attention, and he looked up from the end of the bed where he was working on his computer questioningly. The sniper pulled hair that was still wet from their shared shower over one shoulder, and shifted the hat on his head--fidgeting. “Can we talk, cariño?” he asked, his voice quiet and not exactly steady.
