mistletoe - set sometime in December

Dec 03, 2011 16:46

Helen remembered all too well how the island's version of mistletoe worked and she'd tried her best to not get caught under it as she had last year. However, that didn't last the whole of December and when ducking into what used to be the rec room to get a book for some light afternoon reading, she found herself stuck without anyone really to help ( Read more... )

"Already Helen? I thought you would have waited at least a month before you started to troll for another child to marry." Nikola said more bite than humour for once. Still angry at Helen he crossed the rec room and picked up a magazine. Smirking up at her Nikola dragged a chair over and sat just out of reach of Helen and began to flick through the magazine.

"He's not a child, Nikola," Helen said, frowning a bit. "Will is a grown man. Older than Alcuin, even, if we're going to accuse me of robbing the cradle. By all rights, we should only be dating in the nursing home."

Honestly, the easiest thing for him to do would be just come over and kiss her so she could get unstuck but that would be simple and that wouldn't be Nikola.

"Or each other," Nikola replied turning the page ignoring her trapped beneath the mistletoe. "But then again to do that we'd have to trust each other, wouldn't we?"

"And I don't trust you as far as I can throw you, yes," Helen said, rolling her eyes. "Look, Nikola, I can't be stuck here all day. Do please come kiss me so we can end this farce? I don't even know why you're upset with me, I've been with Will since you arrived on the island."

House had seen her come in and get stuck from where he'd been sitting at the piano. He ignored her until she called out for help, and then played a few bars of "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree." Mistletoe hung where you can see, every couple tries to stop...

Helen rolled her eyes. "And here I thought you'd be jumping at the chance to help me out of this particular predicament. I suppose I thought wrong, hmm? It's a shame, really."

House finished the stanza and then grabbed his cane from where he'd leaned it against the piano, and got to his feet.

He walked over to her.

"You don't actually want to kiss me," he pointed out. "This is like lip extortion."

"I could make it a proper kiss for a moment if you just let me out?"

Surely Will would understand kissing under duress. "And I do like you, it's not like it's distasteful to kiss you, Greg."

"Dr. Magnus?"

Alcuin rose from where he'd been curled in a blanket on a comfortable chair. His clothing hardly even seeming wrinkled (and indeed, the Victorian-era dress seemed to suit him well, even if he'd left the top hat by the chair) when he approached her.

"Are you quite all right?"

Alcuin was one of the better options Helen could have hoped for. She suspected he would have no problems kissing her and releasing her from the mistletoe's grip and have the foresight not to mention it to anyone.

"Ah, it seems I'm stuck, actually, and the mistletoe won't let me out until I kiss someone."

"Oh... I see. Yes, I remember this." Alcuin walked closer to her and offered a small smile. "Would you... like me to kiss you? Or I could try to find Dr. Zimmerman for you."

"I wouldn't mind if you kissed me, Alcuin."

Honestly, she wouldn't. Alcuin was too fair for her tastes, true, but she liked to think they were friends and she liked his soft, gentle nature.

"As long as you're comfortable doing it."

This was Sam's first experience with Island Christmas and thus, had no clue about the magic mistletoe. So, when he saw Dr. Helen Zimmerman calling for help under the plant, he really didn't think anything of it. He didn't think her needing help was even related to it.

"Dr. Zimmerman?" he asked, jogging over next to her. "What's wrong?"

"The mistletoe is magic," Helen explained. "I believe I'm stuck until someone comes and breaks the spell for me, as it was, and like most fairy tales, it seems to require a handsome prince or princess to come kiss me. I really hate to impose but I'd like to not be stuck until Will wanders by, if he does. Could you oblige me?"

Of course the mistletoe was magic. Of course it was. Sam wasn't sure if he would have offered to help her if he had known that. He supposed he could have run to go get her husband, but that seemed like such a long way to go. And she was asking him for help, so what could it hurt?

"Uh, yeah, sure," he said, feeling his stomach flip-flop before he leaned in very quickly, and very lightly, gave her a quick kiss on the lips. Even from the brief contact he could feel himself blushing, ears burning a hot red.

"Bloody hell, Sam, I meant on my cheek," Helen said, utterly flabbergasted and shocked. She stepped out from under the mistletoe quickly, lest she get caught again.

"Although I suppose I should have seen that coming."

Kate's on her way into what used to be the rec room to dig through the clothing box when she hears a very distinctive, very British voice calling for help. The annoyed click-click-click of her heels becomes a fast clatter, knife in her hand.

"Magnus? Magnus where are--" Kate almost smacks right into her and there's nothing around except the goddamned mistletoe. "Oh for fuck's sake. Now we're both stuck."

"Oh, bloody hell. Let's pray that Nikola doesn't walk by and ask us to kiss for his amusement. I could do without the peanut gallery."

Kissing Kate, however, would not be an unpleasant experience. She was a dear friend and an attractive woman.

"Seriously." It's not like Kate's never considered kissing Magnus, but she just got married to Kate's best friend. "Let's just do this and get it over with before anyone sees us." She makes a face. "That came out wrong."

Helen arched a brow. "Come now, Kate, kissing me isn't entirely unpleasant. I'm actually quite good at the whole thing."

But she was married to Will and Kate was dating Declan, so this would need to be a quick and friendly affair.
