I said air mattress, but only if your air mattress is of good quality and doesn't leak over time. I have slept on a wide variety of air mattresses, and I have found that some of them last stalwart and true for days without sagging, and others leave me basically on hard floor by the end of the night.

I fear mysterious, thin foam pad things, but that could just be years of larp experience talking. I'm sure that's much nicer than a larp mattress.

I've had far too many air mattresses deflate, or worse the bindings in the middle of the queen sized ones gave away on one side and it turned into a pear.

Do you want to continually reinflate it with the chance of it dying mid week, or just deal with a known quantity.

I was pondering this - I think I vote both.

I hate sleeping on little pad things - they never give enough comfort. But an airbed alone on slats is gonna be cold, cold, cold.

So. Pad on the bottom (one of the inexpensive ones from Target), and airbed on top of that.

Then again, I'm kind of a wuss at War, and have the comfiest setup in the universe.

I'm not a fan of decision-by-committee. So you'll get none of that from me.
I am however a 12 yr old at heart and felt the need to point out the URL has "butwad" in it.
Just sayin'

There's also the futon option, although that does take up a lot of packing room.

Of the two, the foam looks too thin so I know I wouldn't be comfy. (I'm barely ok with the futon on top of slats.)

I haven't had much trouble with air mattresses. Get one with the battery powered inflation device so that you can adjust throughout the week if you need to. Carry a spare or be ready to duck offsite if you need to replace the mattress.

Other bonus for air mattresses - they pack down the best. =)
