I’ve seen the ways you people handle your inmates. Coddling them. Giving them treats when they get their feelings hurt and having them talk through the turmoil they experienced. It’s disgusting. You’re doing them a disservice by treating every conflict they have as a negative experience.

Conflict. It makes a person stronger. Makes them better. Every ( Read more... )

[There's something about hearing Tyr chastise all the other wardens for coddling their inmates, followed immediately by his warden demanding his presence that sits uneasy with Jim, but he contains his feelings on the matter. He takes the ten minutes to change his clothes, not quite dressing for the gym, but a little more casual than his usual suit and tie combo. He turns up to the gym a couple of minutes early, and steps inside a little guardedly.]

[Tyr has been in the gym for the past half hour, trying to work off his frustration with his inmate and boredom with the rest of the warden population. He sees Jim and scoffs to himself, jumping down from the bar he had been working on.]

Good. You're here. I would have hated to come looking for you. [He paused for a moment to take a drink of water.] Let's go. [He headed for the track, waiting for Jim to follow.]

I would have hated to impose upon you. [Jim followed Tyr, still slightly cautious. Maybe this was just going to be a workout. He could live with that, he might not be able to keep up with the other man, but he worked out regularly enough to not be entirely opposed to this.]

[Tyr stepped onto the track and began and just a light jog.]

You are always an imposition on me, Jim. [Maybe he was joking. Maybe not.]

Tell me what you did during that incident.

Thank you. [Pause. HE ACTUALLY AGREES WITH YOU ABOUT MAKING INMATES WEAK.] I would hate to have survived all that I have, only to die from the cold.

It would have been a needless death, considering what you have obviously done.

Oh, I agree... Of course, the cold aside, the situation wasn't quite as dire as others made it out to be. Inconvenient, certainly, but nothing worth panicking and resorting to cannibalism over.

People will do what they must to survive. But that was not survival. It was panic...quite counterproductive.

At least the situation was dealt with.

No?

Who are you?

Zoey. Someone who only survived because she had others to depend on.

And I didn't come here to kick someone when they're down. I came to help.

Conflict can totally make a person stronger, I agree, but sometimes, when they're already batshit insane, it's best to let them chew on your arm to calm them while you explain why someone cutting off their hands wasn't a sign of affection.

If it takes that, then they aren't worth it.

Dude, they're totally worth it. And he gets through struggles with flying colors. Nothing bad that happens to him bothers him at all.

Pretty much because he thinks stuff like someone cutting off his hands so he stops playing violin is reasonable, and nice because they let him keep his violin.

'Dude,' then he is a survivor. An idiot, but a survivor. They're rare.
