I’ve seen the ways you people handle your inmates. Coddling them. Giving them treats when they get their feelings hurt and having them talk through the turmoil they experienced. It’s disgusting. You’re doing them a disservice by treating every conflict they have as a negative experience.

Conflict. It makes a person stronger. Makes them better. Every ( Read more... )

[There's something about hearing Tyr chastise all the other wardens for coddling their inmates, followed immediately by his warden demanding his presence that sits uneasy with Jim, but he contains his feelings on the matter. He takes the ten minutes to change his clothes, not quite dressing for the gym, but a little more casual than his usual suit and tie combo. He turns up to the gym a couple of minutes early, and steps inside a little guardedly.]

[Tyr has been in the gym for the past half hour, trying to work off his frustration with his inmate and boredom with the rest of the warden population. He sees Jim and scoffs to himself, jumping down from the bar he had been working on.]

Good. You're here. I would have hated to come looking for you. [He paused for a moment to take a drink of water.] Let's go. [He headed for the track, waiting for Jim to follow.]

I would have hated to impose upon you. [Jim followed Tyr, still slightly cautious. Maybe this was just going to be a workout. He could live with that, he might not be able to keep up with the other man, but he worked out regularly enough to not be entirely opposed to this.]

[Tyr stepped onto the track and began and just a light jog.]

You are always an imposition on me, Jim. [Maybe he was joking. Maybe not.]

Tell me what you did during that incident.

After only two meetings? I must work fast. [Jim smiled lightly, as he set off in a jog at Tyr's side.]

Kept out of the way, mostly. One of the wardens was locked out of his room, so I let him stay in mine, when he needed some security. And yourself?

It's not the meetings. [Tyr gave a one shoulder shrug, keeping pace with Jim for the moment. He would up their jog eventually.]

Which warden?

Hm. [Jim didn't pursue the question any further. He didn't think he'd been too bad an inmate. The destruction of his file aside, of course.]

Why do you want to know?

[Tyr began to run a bit faster. Enough that he wanted Jim to notice, but not enough to be a full out run. Yet.]

It might warm me to you.

[Jim kept up, noting the change of pace as he did so.]

It might, but since that's all hypothetical and right now you seem distinctly un-warmed to me... I'm sure you can understand why I'm hesitant to reveal who my friends are to you.

Understandable, but you're not helping your case. [He continued to increase the pace, not even breaking a sweat yet. This was good, he thought. Cleansing.]

I don't have a case, Mr Anasazi. I'm at your disposal, remember? [The pace is... starting to get a little more trying now, but he can still keep up.]

Then tell me who your friend is. [As long as Jim could talk and run at the same time, then the pace wasn't fast enough. He was trying to man's endurance, as well as his patience.]

Why do you want to know? [Jim would probably surrender the information eventually, Tyr had very little on him and he somehow doubted Eddie would be prone to sharing information, so right now it could do more harm than good to seem too vehement about keeping them apart. Still, no resistance at all could be just as suspicious. The pace was getting harder now, and Jim had to be mindful of his breathing. Try not to overexert himself.]

Because I have a distinct lack of information, Jim. And I would hate to have to make assumptions about you based on my first impression. [As they rounded the turn, he found that even he was beginning to get a little winded, though he had started before Jim.]

[Okay, Jim was getting pretty thoroughly out of breath by now.] Fine. Edward Nygma. We-- played a couple of card games the other week.

[He gasped, but was still keeping up.]

[Tyr didn't really feel like he had won anything with that, so he kept going, seeing how long Jim could endure.]

Edward Nygma. And you consider him a friend?
