I kind of sympathize with Hope, because even though my mother didn't die, when she was close to it, I had to be the most annoying person on the hospital floor, from screaming-cry-fit to complaining and moaning about life and how crappy the staff was. So, I think empathize with him.
Vanille's VA is actually Australian, but someone mentioned she is speaking with a different dialect, not the kind Fang speaks.

I guess it's a difference in how I deal with that sort of thing--when people in my sphere to whom I am very close are ill or at risk of dying I tend to internalize. I realize that's harder to get across in a video game, so it might just be the limitations of the medium, but it still sends me into a raging tizzy.

Oh, when I was 14 I was absolutely like that. I think part of my problem is that he reminds me of me when I was younger, and I have a very vehement reaction of DO NOT WANT to that. (I am epically intolerant of my younger self; I keep my college-era LJ entries around as something I can point to and be like "Hey self? NEVER DO THAT SHIT AGAIN. Seriously.") So uh. Yeah. Personal prejudices ahoy.

Well, to be fair, I've BARELY seen Sazh. I'm just having a very iffy reaction of "oh Christ Square I swear to God there really is MORE THAN ONE WAY TO WRITE A BLACK MAN. Shocking, I know, but RLY." But that might be me only being a wee tiny bit into the game ( ... )

You know, I oddly enjoyed the hell out of FF Tactics Advance 2. Oh, it wasn't a Matsuno game, and it lacked the depth of FFT--but it was an adorable little thing, and it had a great combat system, and the characters were refreshingly immune to the usual Square wangst-off. (I love Luso! He's all "Okay so I'm in this REALLY COOL fantasy world. I...I should probably go home, my aunt will worry. So I'll do the right thing and not have adventures. WAIT WHAT YOU SAY. The way I go home is by having awesome adventures to fill out this book? FUCKING SOLD." SO AWESOME.)

Coincidentally, Sazh is the only character I really care about because he's the only person who isn't going I HAVE ISSUES. Everyone else is varying degrees of hurrrrrrrrrrrrrrr (Vanille in particular is more like durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr hurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr derp derp derp).

I friggin' miss when enemies dropped gil as this 'you can only get money from chests and by selling shit' is for the birds.

WEll, they used the "from chests and selling" thing in XII and it wasn't so bad. I'm not sure I like the style this time around, though.

FF13 <33 I'm currently in Ch. 8 and like everyone else says there is tons of development to go. The cast in this game is one of the most well developed casts in an FF title, IMO.

And Sazh is AWESOME. Just give him a chance. He'll really grow on you! He's a kind, but somewhat cynical, older man who is thrust into horrible circumstances beyond his control. He's a little reserved, but also pretty fatherly to the group and is just made of WIN.

Also, the game is kinda boring up until where you are. Once you start getting Paradigms the battles really become fun, and difficult. (Much better than Gambits in FF12, IMO of course)

We shall see! I'm having a hard time really getting into it, much like I did with Dragon Age, sadly.
