Grant me wings that I might fly

Well. That's been an eventful week.

In Exalted on Monday, I finally used my orichalcum steel-barbed whip, Wasp's Sting, so herod_the_nut and the two named NPC's know that I have orichalcum (though I still have not shown a caste mark.) I also found that I have totally misinterpreted the Night Caste anima rules, and in fact they are way shinier than I thought ( Read more... )

No. I was sore before the cuddling started. Stupid cramps.

The new Night Caste anima rules are pretty spiffy. My favorite revision remains Twilight, however; their anima power went from being sort of lame to badass pretty much overnight.

See, I had misinterpreted the Night rules as you could mute it until you had spent 10 out of Peripheral, period, so I was using much less of my Essence than I otherwise might have, and making sure I never spent more than 10 Peripheral. Now that I know it's 10 peripheral unmuted, there will be so much more First Melee Excellency it's not even funny.

Speaking of which, I request input on the matter of combos and Night Caste anima powers. The rules state that combos are always accompanied by a signature flare of Essence. Does Night Caste anima ability mute this? I'm tempted to say no, since it's a signature thing of a combo, but I'm not quite sure.

That's an interesting question, and one I haven't yet had to rule on in my games (no Night Caste players currently, and only one Night Caste NPC.) I would say that Combos somehow involving Stealth Charms are the only ones that are totally immune to the signature flare of Essence, and then only if it makes sense. In terms of whether the Night Caste anima power can effectively mute other Combos, I'd actually have to take a look and compute some sample Combos, which I can't do in my head. My guess is that, providing for the double spending (probably including on Willpower), it could work. Combos are usually damned expensive anyway, but if a Night Caste wants to drain his entire Peripheral Essence pool on a single exquisite Combo that doesn't flare his anima banner, I'd likely let him.

Okay. I'll keep that in mind for future games. I had ruled for the current incarnation of my game that the signature flare always happens, and since the idea was to have the Thrown Combo of Invisible Death From Above, the player ended up not taking the combo. I've been wondering if I made the right decision, though, and would possibly change it for a game at a future date.
