Spring Fever

Correction to previous post, because I'm too lazy to go back and edit: Cleaving Hoof was in fact slain by Knight of the Woeful Countenance before Domaquel shredded him, not by warstriders ( Read more... )

spring, writing, exalted: mixed circle, scenery, car, rant

Ocean City isn't really that close to DC...
However, if you do decide to visit the nation's capital - home of the bullshit politicians, pseudo-intellectual monkey president & alot of great museums, let me know i'm fairly close by.

My parents live ~20 minutes outside of DC proper, and that's where I'm from :) We're driving up to OCNJ for a couple days, and then I will hang out with nothing to do but bake by the pool and play on the Internet, so hence the shout-out.

$2.94 = £1.67

1 gallon = 5 litres

Price per litre in the UK = £0.93

Ergo, we pay the equivalent of $8.12 for a gallon Or, from my point of veiw, you are paying 35p per litre.

Aren't you glad you don't live over here?

Very. But as I understand it, over there you have a lot more mass-transit options than we do here. Here, there's mass transit available in most large cities, but once it gets to the suburbs (where I live/work) it's nigh impossible to find transit that goes where you want to.

For example, if I wanted to take the train to work, I'd have to take the L (elevated train/like the Underground) down into the center of Chicago (about 40 minutes' ride), get on a train at the station, ride that train up north (another 45 minutes or so), and then catch a bus to work (~25-30 minutes), so I would basically triple the length of my commute, and there is no more direct way to get where I want to go.

From what I've gathered reading LJ's, and I may be wrong here, y'all have more bus/train options than we do to get around. Oh, and also if I took the train to work, I'd double my commuting costs above/beyond gas. Hurray for America, home of the wasteful use of petroleum.

I've never played, and neither has the boy, and neither of us have the books. I know I'd be game, though. :)

I guess you haven't heard of peak oil. I've been ranting about the coming energy crisis for years but most Americans would rather just continue to waste gas in their gas guzzlers than open their eyes to reality ( ... )

I maintain the only reason we aren't currently using alternative fuel sources is because politicians don't want to sacrifice our only real tie to the middle east. but blah.

secretsquirrel2 April 14 2006, 02:44:56 UTC
There aren't any economical alternative fuels. Nobody wants to use alternative fuels because they are much more expensive.

No politician wants to pay price. Americans remain blissfully unware of the problem. A lot of people seem to think there's just a conspiracy and if we got rid of the corruption oil prices would go back to "normal".
