ArtFight is done for the year and it was a pretty good run. I had a goal for a piece a week and I managed eight so I'm pretty proud of myself for doubling up, especially considering I did three larger pieces with some detail.

This one was quite the thing with all the details.

the other figures are simply illustrated, but the horse has life!

It's the pastels. They're a lot more forgiving than the watercolor so I'm more prone to slap and dash the color on there with wild abandon. It's part of the reason I love working in them so much.

are you also familiar with watercolor pastels, both the texture of oil pastel
as well as soluble with wet brush to wash them into watercolor,
like the best of both worlds

of course you can do this with oil pastel, by using solvent, ie. odorless paint thinner
to turn the oil pastel crayons into oil wash using an oil bristle brush

the water base require absorbent paper surface, ie. w/c paper
while the oil base could use both w/c paper or primed hardboard or coated graphic surface for ink
i've never tried oil on plastic, ie. plexiglas, i'm not sure if that would work
although i've seen artists create dynamic images with it, since the white plastic heightens the color values

I haven't worked with water soluble pastels yet. I generally prefer the chalk over the oil pastels, we just get along better. This could be something fun to experiment with next time I resupply for classes, though!
