I hate when it's going to rain, bit doesn't - we finally got a good rain yesterday. Hope you get some, soon!

We got between .2 and .4" last night and, surprisingly, we got a second storm tonight with more rain, but no totals yet. Still some rain now LOTS of wind, lost power last night for a couple hours and we are out of power now, supposed to be restored within two hours.

Wow, that mad. Be careful. How are the horses handling it? What special measures are given them?? And how many horses do you have? have you ever done a little LJ introduction to each horse?

It's crazy that the heat wave - drought - is continuing. We're reaping some advantage now, with cool temps and rain, but we did have that same pattern: rani predicted but burning off.

Hos is it at night? Do you pull night air to your house? Do you have shade?

I found this dumb little book of crossword puzzles for horse-lovers. You've probably come upon it in the past. I just thought I'd let you know -

The horses get hosed down a few times a day and we have a big fan we plug in and a few of them stand in front of it, perfectly aware it helps. Our older mare I cut back on her thyroid medicine so she doesn't run as hot.

Our herd sits at seven head right now. I probably should do an updated "this is the herd" post as I haven't done one in a while and it has changed quite a bit the last three years.

I wish it cooled off at night (and wasn't so dusty) that we could open windows at night. Right this second it's in the 70's out there, but for weeks it has been high 80s low 90s at night, which is just miserable. When it's over 90° at 6am it just plain sucks.

We do have over 20 trees on our acre, which shades the house and if we spray them with water can provide some refreshing evaporative cooling (both for us and the horses!), but it doesn't last long.

Thanks for the book recommendation!

135?! WTF?
Does the rain actually cool you down there? We tend to get rain, then just get humid. :/

Sorry if it was unclear, 135lbs of me, not 135 degrees of temperature. It's been over 110 for a few days in a row though, even with the high humidity which is extra nasty. Usually with high humidity it stays around 100 rather than flirting with the teens. Let me tell you 110 at over 30% humidity sucks.

The rain usually cools it down, still hit 111 today despite last night's rain, which sucked.
