I am loving the detailed write ups, especially about this bit, btw. Don't' always have input, but it's the same more detailed thinking I have.
As for the bits, I gather they've been getting some popularity since I've seen them pop up here and there -- enough that your purchase wasn't the first time I'd heard of them (although I don't haunt horse forums online lately)
Out of curiosity, what sort of benefit are you hoping to get from them? I gather the notion is that the lower jaw is affected more than a 'head' controlling issue, as well as benefits for some horses with facial nerve issues too.
Thanks! Part of it is for my own records and being able to go back and review first impressions and the other part is someone else might find it interesting, so there it is

Doesn't she? And she's only 13.2 hands (plus a half inch). She also has really tiny ears and is basically a breathing, non-sparkly old style My Little Pony (with better conformation...). Her large eye sockets sometimes lead to students having a hard time getting the bridle on because it is so wide across her forehead!

I'll have to dig up some more recent ones. She'll be turning 25 in April, believe it or not!
This picture was around the time we got her (10 years in March, apparently!)
