I'm definitely geeking out about it (...like that's anything new with me and cameras...). I am excited to see what 4x5 film can do. You can move the lens around, both tilting and sideways so there should be some pretty crazy effects possible with it. It is not a speedy camera, maxes at 1/400 like the Mamiya RB67 and you have to put the film in and out for each shot, but holy cow I am so excited to use the beast!
The 4"x5" size is actually the start of large format film, but awesome just the same! I also have two medium formats that are quite fun to shoot as well. I've seen an 8x10 before and they just look really impressive and I can imagine they'd be really fun to shoot!
I wish I had taken a photography course in college, but that last semester I was pretty much through mentally. I had saved it for the last semester because I knew it would be very demanding and knowing how I am about it from shooting to printing I didn't want anything to really detract from it (just two classes the last semester). However, because I needed an upper division class I ended up swapping it for Painting II instead. Maybe someday when the boys are in school I take one at the community college (and maybe a watercolor class too...).
I love my medium format cameras. Mamiya makes some solid equipment. I'm very excited to try my hand at a large format one now! Just need to wait for not-summer to roll around to order film!
