New Resident

We have a new resident on our lot. When we got out this set one of the deer at the back of the lot didn't really look like a deer. On closer inspection, we have an Elk. So a year an a half on this property with no elk and now in the span of 2 months we see our first elk and now we have one squatting here...

That's cool. I can say I grew up in the city and never saw any until I started doing field work and living in small mountain towns.

There are a lot of them here in the vally - thus the names Elk River and Elk Valley. I think there were over 1000 on the mine property alone in the last winter wild life survey. They just don't come into town all that often. It will be interesting to see if this one stays. I guess the fact that we are not here all that often is encouraging more wild life to frequent our property.

We have wondered how much trouble we would get in if we set up an "archery range" and happened to have one of these beasties wander onto the range...

I'll back you up in exchange for a few elk steaks.

Damn, now I'm hungry.

You're so lucky that you live far enough away from civilization that you get all those animals waundering into your backyard.

The most we get is a few birds and a couple of squirrels.
