Skree! Good evening, Zhai! Feel free to add me to your user list. I've already added you to mine, considering that the majority of my posts are "friends-only" posts (I'm just paranoid of posting so much personal information out there on the Web without any kind of privacy controls).
Illucian and Eclipse have spoken about you during my trip out to California, so it's a pleasure to get to know you better. Welcome, Zhai!
Thank you. =) I've added you too -- and most of my posts are also friends-only. Hopefully I haven't been too surly for you of late. ;) I agree about the privacy controls. I kind of admire those who put everything in public posts, but at the same time I know it's not for me.
Thank you for the kind welcome, and I'm sorry it took me a couple of days to get back to you. =) We've been doing the family thing and so have been away from computers for awhile.

If you happen to read this before I can chat with you again, just wanted to see if you could friend me. It's not something I've remembered to ask since I've not been around lots. College and stuff. x>
I am surprised. I'd thought surely Lanakila would be more expressive, more outpouring, more proud, here. Am I even in the right place? I know that's you, birdbrain. Just, without your voice.
Hi I have a question I thought you might be able to answer.
I live in Baltimore, Maryland. And I go to the Maryland Institute College of Art. There are two red-shouldered hawks that have been coming around every morning for the past coupled weeks. And that are always flying by my window in the morning. Yesterday I saw them building a nest I believe. It's nestled right by a security camera on a support beam facing the exterior of the building. I thought it was really strange that they were living in the city. But also that they are building a nest so close to so much activity. Because it is in my dorm and there are people going up the stairs constantly right by where they are building their nest. What do you think? And do you think they'll stay?
I found you by clicking on red-shouldered hawks as an interest, And after reading your profile I thought you would definately know more than I would.

Good evening, Kelsey. I was so happy to read your LJ comment and to browse through your Journal. I caught sight of your photo of the red-shouldered hawks nesting at your college. What a wonderful and rare opportunity to see these gorgeous birds, right in the convenience of your own dorm! *smiles
( ... )
Yeah, I did some research online about red-shouldered hawks and had read that they were very shy birds. My hometown is right outside the city of Rochester and there are a pair of peregrines who have been there for some years. I hope the hawks will stay. It's hard to believe that they chose that spot because it is right next tto the stair case and there is a lot of activity.
I don't have a spotting scope to get a good look at them unfortunately. But I'm sure I wouldn't have a hard time finding someone with one, being at an art school. I could try to find a photo major and see if they would take some photos.
I wasn't sure what kind of birds they were at first, but I found a sound clip of their call and I immediately was sure they were red-shouldered hawks because I had been hearing their loud cry every morning.
I would be glad to add you to my friends' list and would love to hear about your nature stories. If I wasn't at art school I would surely be doing some type of work with animals.

Good evening again, Olwensmiles!
I've heard about the peregrine falcons nesting in Rochester. *smiles* Very awesome indeed to know the falcons are finding themselves habitats among sprawling urban centres. (Though I wonder if the long-term safety of the falcons are compromised being so close to human habitat).
I'm glad you did some research on identifying the mysterious birds who chose to nest outside of your college dorm. I love their loud, boisterous cry. It's almost as if the hawks have something to prove to the world, and they're screaming their defiance.
I have some old video/MPEG clips of the red-shouldered hawks that used to live at the raptor rehab centre I currently volunteer at. I can make them available to you, if you like.
Lanakila smiles with warmth. I added your name to my friends' list last night. Welcome to the Journal! I hope you enjoy your stay here!
Have pleasant red-shouldered watching experiences!
