I was wondering. Is anyone here particularly faithful? And by 'faithful', I, of course, mean devout or religious. I would be interested in discussion the idea of faith and how it differs from world to world.

My tribe pays our respect to the Moon and Ocean Spirits. [Hakoda is not a particularly spiritual man, though.] I've never met them myself, but my son and daughter have.

So lucky, your children are to have spoken to the Spirits, I think.

It wasn't under the best circumstances, but I am a bit envious.

Who would not be? I'd be the envy of my people if I met Lilith.

I'm not quite sure I follow. In my world I've never heard the term 'religious'. Many people have faith that if the correct burial rituals are observed, then their souls will be freed to reach open sky, if that's along the lines of what you wanted to know.

[Because, other than worshipping studying the weather, Twig's world has no religion.]

Is that it?

[Oh, now she's deathly curious. She has yet to hear of a human population that lacks a god or deity in some way.]

[Oh good, he seems to be on the right track after all!]

Give or take a little superstition regarding unsavoury creatures in the Deepwoods, yes. Although how much of it is just superstition is negotiable.

I take it that people from other worlds have something... more?

Most worlds that I have heard of have some sort of religious beliefs. My world has several types of religion. Most of them share similar concepts or origins, because of the evolution of humanity.

Wasn't raised to be, to an extent, I'm still not. But I have met many wonderful, amazing people who hold a belief in something that I'm not about to write it off. Simply put, I don't know.

Well, even though you yourself have no inclination towards beliefs of the higher power, you keep an open mind about the beliefs of others. That is very... progressive of you.

Well, I keep finding myself drawn to priests here...

Seriously, though, my family's way has been proven to be wrong over and over to me. Who am I to say that they're not wrong about that? I just haven't found anything to make me a believer.

Understandable. When I was a child, I was Catholic because it was expected of me, but after my embrace, my eyes were opened, and I have found beliefs that suit me much better.

You have angels too? How delightful! I met an angel once... He needed my help with something.

Well, that's actually an interesting question, don't you think? I'm not sure most religions accept Tachikoma! Of course, an alternate meaning might be...

[beat]

Hey, can you clarify? What do you mean, exactly, by 'devout?'

Of course I think so; that is why I asked!

By devout, I mean that you are a firm believer and practice observing your faith regularly.

A believer in what, exactly? Are we talking about God again? I thought we had this all settled!

In addition, what constitutes a religion in the first place? "Faith" is a pretty nebulous term, you know!

Yes, we are talking about God again.

[And with that, there is the sound of pages being turned before-]

Religion; a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.

Or perhaps this definition will suit you better.

Religion; something one believes in and follows devotedly; a point or matter of ethics or conscience.

Did that answer your question?
