Lately, I've come across some people that aren't comfortable being friends with "ex-lovers". I do understand if things ended badly, if perhaps it was long-term with no love and someone wants to re-kindle or something ( Read more... )

For me, once it's over, it's over. Re-opening a relationship that didn't work the first time just seems unnecessarily cruel.

Being friends? Really? Wow. I'm actually friends with quite a few of my exes. I figure, if I was with them in the first place, there should be at least friendship as a base.

My relationships all tend to be long term, and thus involve long term relationship expectations. When something goes wrong at that point, then getting back together invariably opens old wounds or leads to uneven expectations between the two.

It also depends on the personalities of the people involved.

Example: I used Wes as a reference for my security clearance paperwork.

I had to quit my LARP game largely because Conrad wouldn't stop dropping character to snark at me. (And I moved to VA)

Well, yes, it has to work. Just like as in above, some people just can't/won't regardless of how pleasant it might be.

One of my long term exes is sometimes the only person that calls on my bday other than my mom.
