First, have a gorgeous (NWS) artwork of BBC Sherlock and John by mariemjs: Bliss.

Second, how much do I love this Honolulu news piece on the "Five-O effect"?

In particular, I love that a) Waiola Shave Ice exists and the owner is now reproducing the t-shirts, b) they actually listened to the people who run the USS Missouri site when making the ( Read more... )

Awww, that was a great piece! Kona brewing company is also a "local" beer for me because one of their two mainland breweries is like, 25 minutes away from my house. So we get Longboard and Fire Rock on tap and in bottles with the other local craft brews. I always thought it was a weird brand for this area (our beers tend to be branded with moose and bears and such) and it wasn't until the show that I realized, duh, actually from Hawaii!

Oh, cool! You too can get the "alpha male"'s beer of choice (Steve being characterized as that was another highlight of that piece, omg).

I should ask you - can you get the t-shirts and stuff at the local brewery? Because I would totally paypal you to pick up some stuff the next time you're driving by there, if it's not too much trouble. :) I had a look at the online store, but the shipping costs are freaking insane.

I'm not sure because it's brewed out of a bigger, very well-known local brewery that promotes their own beers through their restaurant/gift shop/etc? I haven't been there in ages, though, so it's possible! OH DARN. BREWERY FIELD TRIP. I SUPPOSE I MUST. *g*

I have found myself, at various points throughout the weekend, saying, "Boobies, boobies, boobies!" (not in public, mind you). It's surprisingly liberating - I can see the appeal! :D

Or if the event was being staged here in Nassau, Bubbiefest 2011. :-D

(Yep, in Bahamian slang, they're bubbies, and a bra is a 'bubbie catcher'). Ahhh me, the joys of regional idiom. :-)

Come to think of it, there are pics from his Into The Blue time in Nassau on his site, so they're probably in his book, too.

Can the international edition of Boobyfest be far behind? :-D

Did you see that yesterday the producers and casting agent and Grace, DDK, and Alex held an actor's seminar to help develop local talent for the show / provide opportunities to give local actors exposure?

COME ON. sajdfhlaskdhf

I have to admit that was a pretty sly jab the Waiola guy made about Matsumoto Store, the other famous shave ice place. XD

Okay, I wondered about that, because I saw the name when I was googling for Waiola. Eeek.

The basic difference is Matsumoto's is harder to reach since it's up near the North Shore, while Waiola has at least one store near downtown Honolulu. Otherwise, no clue if there's a real difference in the way they make their respective shave ice(s).
