I'm trying to get some writing done, but I'm currently running back and forth between three stories at once: the next one in the retired!Lewis series, a Cabin Pressure fic I started ages ago and which is starting to move forward (I think), and a Lewis

Yay for you watching George Gently! I actually started out liking Gently and especially Bacchus a lot (have you got to the undercover-in-gay-bar episode yet? Ha), though the show and their relationship has gotten a lot bleaker in the later series, culminating in this last episode, which I've still not recovered from. Kevin Whately was very good though - despite the beard I didn't initially believe he would be evil.

I love Parade's End wholly and unconditionally, because it's full of glorious Tom Stoppard lines and also SYLVIA. With each episode she's grown on me more and more -- I know it's meant to be a love triangle, but for me it's all about the tragedy of Sylvia being in love with this man who's so decent and upstanding you want to kill him so his decent upstandingness can stop damaging everyone including himself. So, yeah.

PE is brilliantly done, there's no doubt - I just can't stand to get involved and have my heart broken. I have such a low threshold for that right now. *sigh*

I'm going to have to get my hands on the earlier GG series (and undercover in a gay bar? Are you freaking serious? :D :D :D)

I don't want to have my heart broken either, but we'll see how the final episode pans out! I'm willing to tolerate a lot of heartbreak for Stoppard's dialogue, though.

I never joke about undercover in a gay bar! The whole thing made me cackle in glee - oh Peter Flannery, I see what you did there :D (I think it's in the murder-at-the-university episode, which is rather Lewisish by definition.)

Oh, you're working on a Cabin Pressure story! I wish you luck, for very selfish reasons.

So far I've absolutely loved Parade's End, everything about it: the performances, the costumes, the scenery, the illustration of the time its set in, and the characters -- well, mostly I want to throttle them, each for a different reason. But I find the episodes utterly compelling and re-watch them at least twice. That's a recommendation.

Also, listening to Roger Allam and Benedict Cumberbatch act together is like being in an echo chamber: so many times they appear to be riffing on Cabin Pressure scenes turned into tragedy. Very strange experience.

PE looks fantastic, and the performances are top-notch - I just have a very low tolerance for frustration right now, sadly. :(

Apparently the earlier series of GG are less bleak - at least that's what I'm hearing. Will have to rent them from my 1 remaining video store.

I CANNOT STOP WITH THE FACE TOUCHING. THEY WANT TO DO IT, AND THEY WILL NOT BE DENIED. :D BUT YOU KNOW, IT IS KIND OF CANON.

I watched the first series of GG and enjoyed it despite it's bleakness. Martin Shaw is still amazing. I haven't had a chance to catch up with subsequent series though.
