I have a peculiar habit when it comes to RPGs. I really enjoy them, and have been addicted to many a Final Fantasy, but if I get interrupted? I lose all that momentum and it's really hard to pick up where I left off. This is why I have a stack of RPGs sitting around half-finished. Love 'em, just can't get back into them. That said, I should probably go back to Digital Devil Saga 2. I... slipped on that one because I'm still trying to build up before taking on two of optional bosses, but only because they're literally right next door to the final boss. And it's just as well, because the penultimate boss handed my butt to me when I attempted him last anyway. Playing Megaten games is a humbling experience. -_-

Heh, I have an especially hard time getting back into modern MegaTen games (and Dragon Quarter, another game on my unfinished list, which I recently bought, after renting before), because you have to be really thinking and pay attention to what you're doing, or else the enemies will wipe the floor with you. One of the nice things about FFXII was that I was able to just run around and let the gambits take care of things while I "got back into the groove". It made walking back up the Pharos a lot better, at least.

Um, yeah, I have a love/hate relationship with MegaTen's sadism. I love the challenge, and yet the final areas in both DDS and DDS2 were so tremendously annoying with their puzzles and tough enemies. And the really annoying thing? If you actually want to fight the majority of the optional bosses in the first one, you need to exit the final area, and the closest teleport point to the final boss is right before an irritating maze (and yet they only appear if you make it to the final floor!). So... that definitely discouraged me from attempting the optional bosses there. I'll get them my next playthrough.
I <3 Dragon Quarter for that reason (and, well, because Lin rocks), because the long dungeons (which... is pretty much the entire game) were more interesting when you have to be very careful. (I still hate those spiders which ( ... )

I'm in at about 130+ hours, and am still planning to take on the last level of the Pharos subterra dungeon (and the two outstanding marks in it) and upper Crystal Grande before I go see the final boss (I would also kill Hell Wyrm, but seriously, I don't think I can take a battle that might last more than five hours, Fafnir was enough of a pain in the ass already). Needless to say, I'm pushing near 70 level wise... =P

I finished the First Ascent of the Pharos, and decided to leave and go tackle as many marks as I could while I still had a fourth party member. When I started up again, I had pretty much done what I can at level 55 (and not-a-prime-number level 48 Reddas was becoming a burden), so I just raced back up the Pharos, fought bosses, bought the final spells, and finished the game. I still have a few marks to tackle, and haven't touched the Subterra (I guess the "deep dungeon" under the lighthouse doesn't get opened up for a few centuries) or upper Crystal Grande. I have stuff left to do, I just was tired of not being able to read ending spoilers. ;)
Ah, I was just wondering if the forever-to-beat boss made it into the game or not. Something... to look forward to? Oh, and I cheated with Fafnir, hiding out in a corner behind a rock where he can't go. Lame, but hey. ;)
And at 70, you're going to make mincemeat out of the final boss. :p

The good news is that you don't have to kill either one all at once (if you run away from the dungeons they're in fast enough they don't regenerate like other marks). The bad news is that having to keep up the pattern of running away far enough and then coming back is what makes beating either one so freaking long. =[
There's also an Omega boss in the game somewhere, but it apparently isn't as tough and tedious as the aforementioned two.
