Yasu didn't notice it up until now. Even after more than 15 years of being together all the time, he just didn't notice.
He flicked through the tons of old and new magazines that Kanjani8 was featured in, laughing over how young they looked and how horrendous the outfits were that they had to put on. And then he suddenly saw it.
Him.
Ohkura.
Whenever Ohkura was next to him in a group picture, Yasu was always standing a bit in front of him. Whether it was a professional shot, a paparazzi picture or a screenshot of their variety shows - Ohkura was always standing behind Yasu. And it was not just in magazines - on television or at concerts this pattern was also showing.
Everyone knew and everyone clearly saw that Yasu was not the tallest one. No, the exact opposite was the case. Being the shortest member with 1,64m didn't really bother him, but he wished that he would be at least five or ten centimeters taller. Especially when he thought of Ohkura who was a head taller than him.
At first Yasu felt a bit offended. Was Ohkura making fun of him? Because he was the little dwarf who always had to stand in the first row to see something?
But that was not Ohkura-like. Yasu knew him too well and was sure that Ohkura would never make fun of him for being short.
When Yasu heard the front door being opened and a loud "Tadaima!" coming from the entrance, he automatically stood up, taking one of the magazines in his hand.
"Okaeri, Tacchon!" The beaming smile he received as an answer to his greeting, made Yasu feel calmer and more relaxed again. Doesn't really matter that Ohkura is always standing right behind him, doesn't it?
But Ohkura noticed the magazine in Yasu's hand, laughing when he saw the old picture of their group.
"Where did you dig that up?" Ohkura approached Yasu from behind, looking over his shoulder "Look how small Ryo-chan was! And now he is the exact opposite of it!"
But Yasu couldn't really concentrate on Nishikido, when he noticed that the exact same thing happened again. Ohkura standing behind him. He could have just looked at the magazine from the front.
"Are you doing this on purpose?" Yasu didn't want to ask him that directly, but he couldn't keep his thoughts with him anymore. Ohkura was giving him a questioning gaze, looking down on Yasu.
"What?"
"That you are always standing right behind me."
"What are you talking about?"
Yasu pointed at their group shot.
"I flicked through dozen of magazines and you are always behind me. Also on television and stuff."
When Ohkura heard the reproachful tone in Yasu's voice, he frowned and took a step back.
"Are you doing this on purpose?"
"What if I did?"
"I don't know... I just want to know, Tacchon."
Ohkura sighed and went from the hallway to their living room, throwing his jacket on the couch.
"At first it was on purpose, I guess, but now it is just something that I do unconsciously. I don't think about where or how I place myself, I just do it."
"What do you mean on purpose?" Yasu followed him, putting the magazine on a nearby shelf.
"I just... I just wanted to protect you. Look over you. Be there when something is wrong, okay? And to be honest I still want to do all of that, isn't it okay like that?"
Ohkura sounded offended and Yasu immediately regretted thinking that Ohkura would do something like that just to tease him. Slowly Yasu approached him, clinging on Ohkura's right arm and mumbling against his shoulder.
"Of course it is. But you don't need to protect me, you know that."
"But I want to. I need to. And I think that you know that, Sho-chan."
When Ohkura's tone changed from angry to soft again, Yasu smiled against his shoulder before he placed a kiss on it.
He always liked to do that. It was his special spot. Of course he didn't mind tiptoeing to reach out to Ohkura's lips, and most of the time Ohkura just bent down to kiss Yasu anyways, but whenever Yasu just felt like kissing him, he chose Ohkura's shoulder right at his eye level.
Ohkura knew that, having to grin immediately whenever he felt Yasu's lips against it. And this time it was the same.
But he also didn’t mind when he saw Yasu’s face coming closer to his own, their lips softly touching.
