"If you don't like someone, how they hold their spoon will bother you. If you truly like someone, they could upend their soup into your lap and you wouldn't care a bit."

crackedmyself asks if we agree or disagree.

I know where I stand, so discuss away in the comments and I'll chime in.

Agree. It's easy to nitpick someone you don't like. But when you love someone (or truly like as stated in the quote) all of those weird idiosyncracies become cherished.

if the soup is hot and it burned me i'll be pissed. and if it ruins something i absolutely loved.. well then I'd be mad regardless of how much I liked them. But I'll forgive them eventually. Then laugh about it. But I would care. Damnit it's soup! on my lap!

but if I don't like someone, yeah. every little bit annoys me. although i don't really focus on the way they hold their spoon. I'll criticize their soup choice and their crappy small talk.

If it was gaspatcho and it was really hot weather at the time, you might thank them...

I agree, for the most part. Often, with people I dislike, I find myself focusing on very tiny, seemingly insignificant aspects of their personality or demeanor. I've liked people who had very "large" character flaws, and those haven't bothered me in context. Having said that, I do think that there's an interesting tendency to dislike in other people what we dislike in ourselves, so that puts a funky spin on things.

I answered it for myself by asking if Blake or Jeff spilled soup on me, what would I do? I knew right away that I would be more worried about making them feel okay than about the spill.

And if I don't like someone, the way they breathe can annoy me.

Definitely true - if it were an accident, of course. If Jeremy did it on purpose it would seem a bit out of character, and I'd wonder if he'd hit is head pretty badly.

Oh God that is so true. Towards the end of my relationship with Campos, the way he ate, held his fork and knife.... they all used to irritate the hell out of me. I'd want to slap him upside the head.
