Mmmm, book lust thoughts...

You know, if I didn't think it would be so damn uncomfortable and if I didn't think I'd probably ruin my books somehow, I would totally sleep with my books in bed. Perhaps this is the way some people feel about money. The physical paper should not really do so much for me; it's supposed to be the words in the books that count, but the physical ( Read more... )

*giggles* You tell us you don't want to be called cute, but then you write entries like this and what else can we call you?!

Though I do know what you mean. I'm engaging in a love affair with the printed word...

mmmm, books.

I seriously need a copy of Daniel Deronda, paperback and unabridged, preferably Penguin though any good version will do.

Since you get 40% off.

And not necessary if you don't get this message in time. Need is relative, after all.

Oh I've got it! I'll check if it's actually in (or rather, if it's supposed to be in lol).

Ah hah! It's $9.95 (so $6 after discount, nice), and it's supposed to be in!

Yes, if I could roll in them like I do with money, I so would.

Um, right. ;)

LOL! But it's like... they've made money perfume, and what the hell would you do with that? Money smells gross! But people get attached to the physical characteristics of money that way. ::shrug::

Money perfume? Yuck! I once had the brilliant idea of creating some Eau d'Onion, but as you can see, that idea went nowhere.

Oh yes, and when you buy a new book you can spend hours just sniffing them...especially when the new book is one of those old books that spend most of their life in a library.
I can tell you, when I finally got my Hobb books in, I didn't even dare touch them, I only stroked the cover affectionately, and only after my mom had nicely wrapped them in a thin platic layer to protect them did I dare read them. The covers are never more than some 15 cm apart lest I damage the book, and I wash my hands before even touching the paper.

I think I'm in love with my books. Only sleeping with them, no. It would hurt them! I could never hurt my bookses.

I know! If there were a way to sleep w/ them w/out hurting them, I'd so be there.

But yeah, I hate opening books up too wide too, esp hardbacks.

Especially soft backs, they're so much more fragile! Hardback covers don't curl up after you've opened them too widely. This sentence sounded weird and slightly wrong.

But yes, if you *could* sleep with your books in bed, I'd snuggle up to them like a teddybear!

Well, the softbacks are cheap enough that any extensive use is going to wear them anyway. They're usually more flexible about opening all the way too (well, depending... and mass market paperbacks aren't really worth the effort, because they will be ruined no matter what you do :-P That and paperback covers curl even when they've not been opened). It's the hardbacks I tend not to open all the way. The paperbacks are also easier to replace.
