Well, to swerve right and then left suddenly is a way trucks with trailers turn. I bet he didn't see you and the fact he had no signal kinda leans that way. I've seen too many trucks with flatbeds like that do the same thing to turn to the left.
Hopefully what will happen is his insurance will pay for a new truck for you both. Point out and press the disability and that this is the only means of transport for you two. /hugs
Argh! I'm glad you two are only shaken, not stirred!
The wide turn sans signal thing irks the hell out of me when truckers do it. I can usually spot the "pattern", but it's a complicated one: slow down, dip toward the turn in, swing out, then loop into the turn. As the back end finishes the swing out, the front is making the turn in, unless they stop, and even then the wheels are set. What's worse is some truckers don't do it right, and the real jerks don't use their signals on turning when driving a long wide rig.
The vehicle was not a semi but a standard extra cab utility truck. No way would I have attempted to pass a semi that was showing weird driving patterns.
The driver just gave the impression of being somewhat distracted whilst changing lanes and absolutely no indication of turning right. Until he swerved into me.
I simply do not understand, when there is plenty of lane clearance to make a right turn into a driveway, one has to swerve clear into the left lane to turn right. Even with a utility truck pulling a long flatbed trailer there was plenty of room in the right lane to turn right into the business lot.
So basically , he crossed into your lane which you were occupying legally, and hit you. Whether or not he was turning right is irrelevant. I'd emphasize that aspect if it were me.
