This passage in the bible has been one that has fascinated me from childhood. I remember discussing it in religion class when I was nine years old, the focus of the class was Judas but I kept asking: "What does anointing mean? Why does Mary Magdalen anoint Jesus?" and probably most annoyingly to my teacher at the time, "Why don't the nuns anoint people's feet in church if that's what Mary Magdalen did in the Bible?" I just couldn't understand at age nine why anointing wasn't a sacrament. It was an important moment for me spiritually because I started questioning the nature of my faith and practice
