IRON MAN

So.  Midnight showing.  Iron Man.

Whee!!

The movie was a ton of fun, there's some nice hints in there for comics-people and the movie is compeltely cool even if you've never read a comic (or a Marvel comic!) before in your life.  Tony was pretty brilliant, as were Pepper and Jarvis, and OH MY GOD THE SUIT.  I WANT ONE.

So, yeah.  Not, y'know, the best ( Read more... )

I would totally tell you, but I don't want to spoil anyone who reads this! I tried to PM you, but LJ wouldn't let me. Is there an e-mail address I can send something to? Or a way for me to message you?

*GLEE* Oh man, I can't wait. Is Tony a total jerk with plenty of issues? PLEASE SAY YES.

Oh, Tony's completely a jerk with plenty of issues. I did sort of think they could have played up the alcoholism a *little* more, but it was there, as were most of his other less than desirable traits. Or as much as could be in a movie, anyway.

It's a pretty fun movie.

Hmm . . . what is the 'this' that makes Marvel intriguing for you? The lethal force issue?

I wander around some, but in Marvel I'm an Ultimate-verse person because I think they've fucked their main canon/616 universe over completely. There's too much, and too little of it has anything to do with the characters.

Mind you, this holds true in a lot of DC right now as well, but I'm still reading three main-universe DC titles (all of which involve secondary or tertiary-level heroes, which probably makes a differece), as well as Wildstorm-published ASTRO CITY, whereas the only Marvel comic I read is Ultimate Spider-Man, and I'd jumped ship from that for a while till this latest arc.

It could just be the convert in me talking--I started out in comics in X-Men. And would also be sad to lose you in DC fandom.

Yeah . . . when Claremont utterly lost his mind is about when I jumped ship there, too. *grins*

If you're looking to get into Ultimate-verse...

As far as Ultimates-verse goes, Ultimate Spider-Man is really the best bet, though I leaped out for all of the Clone arc and jumped back on at issue #111 (which is one of my favorite issues of anything ever).

You can read the first, oh, two or three arcs of Ultimate X-Men, and they're really good, but then the title starts to go downhill and is now pretty much completely incomprehensible. But there was so much potential in those first few arcs.

Ultimates is a title I have some feminist problems with, but I love it dearly anyway. It's huge and self-referential and funny and I love it. Ultimates 2 (since the first Ultimates title was a miniseries) is less wonderful, and I haven't actually finished it yet, so I have no opinions.
