Glee

Since it's the only thing substantial in my life, I'll talk about that here.

So yeah... was anyone just not cool with last night's episode? When I heard they were doing a religious episode I knew it was going to piss me off no matter which way it was played out, and I was right. There is no diplomatic way to handle it.

What pissed me off the most...(preach) )

homophobia can diaf, because i know you care what i think, i wanna be in glee, rant

I liked the episode myself, although what made no sense is how Sue Slyvester actually managed to get religiously themed songs banned from being performed at McKinely High. I know public schools by law aren't allowed to perform Christmas plays anymore, but many do hold holiday concerts where the school orchestras and choirs and glee clubs and the like sing songs with songs with at least song religious nature in them. I mean, I know Glee exists in its own reality, but there is no way Sue would've been able to pull that off in the real world. Nor would she have last season when Figgins insisted after ND's "Push It" number that they either had to sing about Jesus or rainbows.

Then again, I'm perhaps waaaaaaaay in over my head.

All I know is that I was omgsofuckingclose to sobbing like a little bitch when Kurt sang "I Want To Hold Your Hand". Both the actual scene and his rendition were so gorgeous. &hearts

Yep, it wasn't really plausible, but Glee does whateverthefuck it wants xD

I didn't sob because I was in a room full of people but my heart strings were definitely being tugged! Best scene of the whole show!

I didn't sob or cry either because I'm not someone who cries at tv shows/movies/etc. but I was seriously close to. Damn Chris should get that Emmy next year.

The little kid playing "little kurt" is actually Chris Colfer's little brother.

No it's not. Where did you hear that? xD

His name is Adam Kolkin and he's 13 years old. Chris only has a little sister, see!

Yeah, I was not really a fan of the episode. Season 2 has really been awful for me, and I'm a Britney stan too!

I was raised Christian and so the whole praying to the grilled cheese to touch boobs~ thing was just really uncomfortable for me, I didn't find it necessary at all, but that's just me.

Another thing that bothered me is making Kurt an atheist. I'm sure a lot of homosexuals are, but I also know several that are spiritual, and one would even determine herself to be Christian.

I dunno, it's complicated and I'm sure my views vary very differently from most so I'll keep them to myself but long story short, I thought they just played into all of the cliches and that annoyed me.

Yeah I have been torn about this season too. It's just like... too much. Too much bitchiness from Rachel, too much exaggeration of things you loved from the first season, too much sucky music... Not really excited about this one.

Yeah, I agree that it was too easy to make Kurt the atheist. Talk about playing into a cliche indeed. There are definitely a lot of gay people who consider themselves religious, and often struggle with that for various reasons. But instead of having Kurt be agnostic or having trouble with his faith, they just made him seem like a Godless jerk that was insensitive to others' religions.

Boo, Ryan Murphy, boo.

I get what you're saying about thumpers using his athiesm as validation for their bigotry. I'm sure many people probably did just that. However, those people were going to find everything that character says and does wrong anyway, save repenting his sins and giving up his depraved ways entirely. Those are the people who believe that if you aren't straight everything about you is wrong, and even if you're the most devout motherfucker on the face of God's green earth it doesn't matter one jot because you're not a true Christian... just ain't possible.
