I keep telling myself I'll reread Jordan's whole deal if he ever gets his rump around to finishing it...but my inclination is fading fast by the year. Especially when it takes me a week to read one of his books IF I put my life on hold...and there's how many now? ;P
*chuckles at number 2 of section 2* We're utter opposites there...
Sorry to hear you don't like your finished stuff--that's the way I was with all my academic writing, once the 'hurrah-I-finished-and-the-print-is-dry-5-minutes-before-deadline!!' euphoria wore off. For what it's worth, I liked 'Wounds' and 'Blackberries'--and most definitely 'Lost Souls,' even if I did guess... ;)
(In case you didn't know, Ruatha from FictionPress, that's been reading Hope's Passage, followed my link and appears to have chewed up a couple chapters of your Soulfire...)
I had no crippling problem with books 1 and 2. I never actually liked anyone in it, but a lot of the premises seemed good and there was a bit of promise in Things to Come. By the time I hit book 5 I'd realised what everyone now knows - he has no idea where all this is going and is just making crap up as he goes along
( ... )
You know? I can't believe I completely forgot to include Jordan...
*rolls eyes at writing question 4* You don't have to be happy with it. You just have to like it. ;p I adore 'Trials' to pieces, but it's in desperate need of polishing and a touch of expanding. If Fele cooperates, I could even make it a proper multi-scened short. ^-~ And I like 'Blackberries' and 'Wounds'. Like 'Blackberries' more, possibly partially because I read it sooner. I really should get on top of my reading... er, Unsurpassable Mountain of DOOOM! so I can get to rereading things...
(Ooooh... Let's glomp Cochalyon and Thalian! Those two do so deserve cuddles. ^-^)
I'd rather try and forget he exists, really... Safer ;)
How can you love someone and yet be angry with them? Sorry, I'll try not to answer questions with questions, but it's the same principle. For me at least. I've resigned myself to not liking my writing beyond occasional phrases. There's much to like and be happy with/about besides that. ^-^
(They do too for all you've put them through... *duly glomps Thalian*)
'twas fun, yes. ^-^ And the answers of others are fun to read too. ^-^
Yeah, that's true, actually. His motives were a really good fuzzy patch. I think my main problem, though, was that I wasn't particularly interested in getting to the bottom of him. The mystery and ambiguity surrounding him could have been fantastic if there'd just been a little thread of 'here's why he's a person and you should care about trying to figure him out'.
That was my complaint with a lot of the book, actually. It was like he sat down and thought 'Ha, this would be a clever idea,' and just treated everything as a device rather than something real.
The same friend who recommended him to me said that 'Perdido Street Station' was better, so I might give that a try when my 'hey, I spent $15 on you!' annoyance wears off. *is tight* ;D
I prefered The Scar, because despite being utterly beautiful with slake-moths and an "oh what?!" ending even I, who has had very little to do with ploating thought Perdido Street Station smelled of gaming in the middle. Still, you've got to love the Pretty Brigade, no?
Have ye read The Etched City? Bought it on sudden impulse for a pretty cover and it immediately became a favourite. A man, and a woman - WHO STAY FRIENDS!!! Dude!
What? No sexual tension at all? But that's ... unnatural! :O
I haven't read it, no, but I'm obviously going to have to just so I can gawp at the freak show. XD
Seriously, I swear I've never read a book like that in any genre. Ever. (And sometimes I lie awake at night thinking, 'Gee, I'd really better have a romantic interlude with one of my guy friends, or it'll just be weird.')
(Wow, another 1812 overture fan? *hums, making cannon sounds*)
I used to like Jordan, until book 10 or so. I actually enjoyed the length and complexity of his books. I read so fast that it's nice to have something long and tangled enough to last you for a while. That was before he started sucking. After book 10 I got really pissed off at him. And book 11 is so badly written that in places it seemed more like a parody than a book. *sighs*
Eee, I love that song! I've always loved it! I don't know why, but it just makes me squeal. It's not as though I like New Year's Eve all that much. XD
I'm definitely with you on length and complexity - a new Pratchett book only lasts me a day, so it's nice to pick something up that's going to last a while. But I still have to feel like things are happening and there's a direction to it all, or it's just like reading through a pile of someone's writing notes (and paying for it ;P).
The fact that he can be writing a book 11 and not even be hinting at a finale just screams 'opportunist' at me, too. He's milking this for every drop he can squeeze out of his hardcore readers, which is mean when you think about how loyal they generally are. }:/
Rant, rant, rant ... I must just be in a ranty mood today. Better fill my mouth with coffee instead. XD Happy Wednesday!

And the cricket has indeed been fun to watch :D

Ah, dear, Robert Jordan. At least most bad writers don't set out to destroy whole rainforests. ;D
And Chris Bunch ... don't know where to start, and definitely wouldn't know where to stop. So I won't.
*waits patiently for Without a Shirt instead*

How can I like something if I'm not happy with it? O_o I like my characters, obviously, and the settings, but just not the writing itself.
(*cackle* Maybe not 'deserve', but what the hey! XD)
Thanks for that meme, precious! I enjoyed much ... haven't done anywhere near enough random quizzy things lately ... }:D

If you don't feel like shelling out large amounts of money on, say, Perdido Street Station, or A Game of Thrones... well.
Very much looking forward to my Christmas short (of course I'll like it! I haven't read a single piece of yours that I didn't love. Really).
