I'm re-watching the first season (aka netflix is autoplaying while I'm dozing), and I really think that the reason Scott is (to me) so much more likeable in the second season is because he just didn't translate from script to screen in the first. And Derek. I actually don't understand a lot of fandom interpretations of his character or his actions. I also agree he must have had some sort of life in New York. What has he been doing for the last few years running wild, eating out of garbage cans? Don't think so. Not with a car like that. He has been living.
It literally makes my chest ache when I think about him in that house. Even if he is getting over his families death and his (small) role in it, that house is just base self flagellation. IMO.

Ugh, I cannot deal with him in that house. Like, the more I think about Season One, the more I am astonished at how composed Derek is, especially because we all know he doesn't know what the fuck he's doing.
I wish I could have a nice, happy fandom. I thought Hawaii Five-0 would be that fandom, and then they let Scott Caan act and he tends to make me cry when people let him act. So there went that fantasy.

That being said, I like your version of Derek. And his life in NYC. He should just kidnap his pack and make them move into the city. :3
