Just a quick post, because my internet keeps shorting out (eff youuuuuuuuu internets).

I went to see Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter last night. And it was as bad as I thought it would be, but in all the wrong ways.

(There was a plot? I don't know, I spent the entire time laughing because everything was ridiculous and confusing.)

The premise was that ( Read more... )

In all honesty I probably make this sound a lot worse than it actually was, mostly because after that statement I just stopped trying to pay attention to the plot for like ten minutes and then suddenly everything got confusing. (I imagine that's how people who don't get confused by Inception feel about Inception.) It's definitely not a fluff-type, but it's campy in a ridiculous way. I don't know. My best friend and I spent the entire movie laughing, because it's the kind of bad movie that you can do that, but I also feel weird whenever I try to decide if I actually like it or not.

But I also can't really say I recommend it, so.

I saw the movie as well and I have to say that like you I was bothered by the revisioning of Lincoln's purpose for the civil war. Actually I am a little surprised by the fact that most people don't realize the economic agenda behind Lincoln's decisions. Everyone seems to think he is a saint.

That said I did think the fight scenes were amazing.

I just found the movie really fucking racist. It was like, "...no, WHITE PEOPLE NOT VAMPIRES." I had a huge issue with that. And Lincoln really was not a saint. I think that Americans (in general) have this idea of Lincoln of a savior because: a) he won the civil war, and b) he signed a document that meant slaves were technically free peoples. But, really, that period of post-slavery was only marginally better for African Americans. It's not like it was all, "Yay we're free people everything is rainbows and sunshine," which is what they kinda teach in school. Because America doesn't like to admit that we've been racist in the past and still are pretty racist today. Post-racism my ass.

The fight scenes were pretty cool, I will give you that.
