Yarn help

So I bought the pattern to make this ponchette (I like the picture on Knit and Tonic better which is why I link to it) Thanks to my recent windfall I'd like to buy some yarn to knit it. The suggested yarn is bamboo and rather pricey so I was thinking that it might be nice in a cotton/silk blend. I am currently looking at Debbie Bliss Cathay and Read more... )

Don't trust 'worsted'! Or 'dk' for that matter! THEY LIE! socksforphlox April 29 2006, 13:10:37 UTC
Cathay isn't worsted weight... the yarn that the poncho is made of is actually closer to worsted than Cathay.

I hate it when people designate their yarns by weight rather than gauge. Cathay is listed at 5.5sts/inc (22 sts/10cm), while the Allhemp is 5sts/inch (20/10cm).

And cathay is absolutely BEAUTIFUL and feels a lot like a silk. The new colours this season are also gorgeous (the blue is so deep and sharp that it makes me stare at it continually).

Anyhoo, in conclusion: I like Cathay (and so will you) and I like that ponchette.

How are you adjusting? I am a little freaked out by the lack of damocles' sword above my head...

So..... if the Allhemp is actually worsted and the Cathay is closer to dk, what should I get? Do you think I'd be able to adjust the pattern for the Cathay because it looks lovely. And I was thinking of either a deep blue or green. Oh, and how much Cathay should I get?

My adjustment to lack of school was surprisingly easy. As soon as it was done it was like school had never existed. Living my life this way (relaxing, knitting, and preparing to move) feels perfectly normal. I was expecting it to feel different so it's very weird.
