Oh, this is *beautiful*! I've been looking for it since I saw it show up on my flist last night and then disappear before I could read it. And, wow, I'm just stunned at how lovely a chapter this is.
Sorry about that. LJ is being a big fat poopie head (or I got no skillz in posting). Note the complete lack of formatting and italics and everything.
I'm so glad you liked it. I sent it to Jellicle with a "Okay, which 1000 words of this need to be cut?" and she said to keep them all.
It's such tricky subject matter, with the whole faith thing, and how many words does that scene need, and are they being too domestic and cute, and is it good? I was driving myself nuts with it.
I'm very glad you left all the words in! I mean--I'm not a religious person, and beyond that I would rather poke myself in the eye than go to church, but I love the atmosphere you set up here and what the acceptance means to both of the guys. It's really beautiful.
Thanks. I worked hard to put the focus on how Jared felt, being there, not the specifics of the message except where it was absolutely necessary.
I've been to a gay church in florida, and one of them here in Dallas, and I gotta tell you, the feel is so different than any typical church I've been to.
Oh wow! I've been crappy about replies lately but I had to let you know that this was beautiful. I'm not Christian, but I've had the same feelings of love and acceptance when I've been to some spiritual meetings. It is just an overwhelming feeling of peace and love and sometimes it is a little hard to absorb all at once. You captured that beautifully.
Thanks. I'm glad it worked for you. Religion is such a tricky thing to add to a character's personality in fanfic. I really tried to focus on how it felt over the specifics of the message or whatever.
When I lived in Florida, I went to a gay church there, and I cried every time I took communion for like 6 months.
