No Experience Needed: Fanmix by Geranosaurusfic

geranosaurusfic has put together a collection of really fitting tunes that put you in mind of the awkward post-high school days, trying to shake off youth while desperately hanging onto it. And the art is so lovely and completely canon with the story too, which did not escape my notice.

Author's Notes AKA ladyfoxxx probably gets a bit too excited about fanmixes:
Starting off with the Ben Fold's Still Fighting It immediately puts you in mind of youth lost and nostalgia, plus of course the incredibly fitting food service lyrics: You want a coke? / Maybe some fries? / The roast beef combo's only $9.95. Following up with Drive My Car put you straight into Frank's car and Gerard making heart-eyes at him, of course with some Green Day (F.O.D.) for them to bond over - when that first riff kicks in you can just see Frankie tapping it out on the steering wheel.

Little Things calls back to Gerard's loser-at-high-school past, which of course he shares with the other guys in all probability since they're all part of the loser army. Tattoo, well that one just fits right in with all it's coming of age connotations: Welcome to my life, tattoo / I'm a man now, thanks to you. Halloween's party nature and chant-a-long upbeatness would work even if it didn't call to the holiday so well. Alcohol brings you to the dizzier end of the late-night party with it's drunken, swaying humour.

The Bouncing Souls Hopeless Romantic is so incredibly and wonderfully Gerard I can't really express it enough - I gave you my love and if you turned away / I guess i'd be screwed, but... I'm a hopeless romantic / You're just hopeless. Getting Better is really optimistic and foot-tapping, which puts me in mind of Frankie and Gee finally getting their shit together.

Earthquake surprised the shit out of me and then I completely fell for it. My god, this is such a Frankie song. He's shaking and convulsing all over the damn floor (or picnic table) to this song. Favourite 'discovery' track of this mix, for sure. Following this madness is the mellow Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk which is all about liking things that are bad for you: And then there's those other things / Which for several reasons we wont mention.

When I saw the mix finished with Wild Thing it was a true victory arms moment. What a way to tie the mix and the fic together.

Go and grab this one. It's a keeper.
